DRC May Be Nearing The End.....

Is there a reason you're so passionate about this? The celeb death shit must have been bothering you for a while. Sorry man, that sucks.

And I guess you're right. Who cares if we have a death thread pinned subforum with individual threads.

I guess we're just not used to having a dedicated forum with a shit ton of threads that have zero or only a couple replies.
You were around for the early days, you saw how many arguments there were over 'celebrities' being included in the CDT. With most of us around here we post people that others may not have heard of, and would question their status as celebrities, sure as shit that's going to increase tenfold in any new place with higher traffic.

This would be true if we had some of the old people back from the early days of DRC at the new place, because sure as shit there's gonna be arguments, 'Well I've never heard of this guy, he's not a celebrity', I'm just trying to avoid conflict here while still being able to mark the occasion.

Ohhhh...So you don't like the shittalk we do with minor celebs and debating if they are worthy of announcing their death?

I think it's rather pointless, if it makes the news it's worthy of being posted. Even if they're only 'famous' to some. And individual threads would encourage more input from people who maybe knew who they were. As opposed to just 'second' and moving on.

On the SiriusBuzz site, one person – golly gee, I wonder who! – started an "Entertainment Industry Obituaries" thread. The name precludes any arguments concerning who is, or is not, a "celebrity." Thank you and good night.

New place???

DRC isn't going anywhere. This is our place and I will not let us lose it.
Yeah but, with or without this place, I have plans on starting my own forum (yes there will be a subform for this, not a thread, and there will be a political forum, but that's another story). I've already got the subforum list drawn up, and the domain name, just need the funds, and I'll probably learn some HTML coding to get the asthetics together, and find some co-admins/mods to help keep the place from going to hell. I helped run a few places back in the early aughts and would like to pick it up as a hobby again. But we'll see, gotta come up with the money first.

Making the news can mean a lot. Tony made the news on Jambase.com and Relix.com but was nowhere near CNN or Fox.

I always assumed anyone who posts a "second" does it because they know the person no matter their level of celebrity.

I guess we differ on the bickering. I think its fun when someone posts a celeb death notice (and the poster isn't emotionally connected to the celeb) and then we argue if the OP made a mistake by over inflating the person's overall relevance.,

That's cool but why?

We're all already here and apparently this place is about to change hands.

We should powwow once more of the details about the DRC transition of ownership are worked out.

I think I've been very clear about how I want to keep this place alive and at the same time not be totally entrenched unless it's unavoidable.

I'll be the Jeffrey Laurie and you'll be the Howie Roseman of DRC.

Lets take a breather from rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic and see what Hectic finds out from Taylor.

Very good call.

I should take a breath.

But hearing DRC might shutter gets me all worked up and energized to make moves that prevent that from happening.

Sooooo.....back on topic....

As soon as I can get the details on approximate annual costs and schedule for when Taylor would like to hand it over to one of us, I'll share that info.

Our current in-house skill-set for taking care of this place is that Aaron and I moderate and deal with spammers. The server side with software updates and whatnot is beyond our abilities. I know when MM was doing it, there were some tricky things on the server side, and he was used to doing it. That said, we'd need to find someone to handle that part of things. Our current software has been out of date for a while, and that's part of why the spammers have been hassling us.

So those things being said...... If we can save the place and manage to get updates taken care of, I'm willing to keep moderating. I don't have time to put into learning extra server-side stuff.

On the one hand, you got me thinking.

On the other hand, you and me running any place would be less like Lurie and Roseman, and more like Steinbrenner and Martin. I think the difference (and with all due respect!) between my philosophy on running a forum, and your philosophy is the difference between Star Trek and Spaceballs.

In my case, I'm not interested in maintaining a strict Satellite Radio board (the name DRC, while it wouldn't not mean anything, wouldn't be very useful) and I'm not sure if any of the old users would come back if I am around, alot of them weren't big fans of me, nor me of them.

Regardless of what this place will be and who's running it, I am going to start my own board in the not too distant future that will be any number of different topics. Including Current events, Politics, History, Technology, Entertainment, Pop Culture, Sports, Games, R-Rated Discussion, and General Discussion, in that order.

Not to compete against this place (not directly), but as my own little hobby that I use to have earlier and would like to start up again (My God I use a lot of commas!)

EDIT: That being said, if I'm asked to join the team around here and help maintain it and restore its popularity, I wouldn't say no.

These are some of the annual plans for Xenforo (the software for this board) that include cloud server space. Something to consider?

I just want to make it clear that my opinion represents only me. If others disagree, then go ahead and change the rules. The most important thing to me is for members to feel welcome. I want Jon, Wolf, and everyone else to stick around. I'd like to see Semi back here again, but that's out of my control.

I may go into hiatus every now and then if something major comes in my life. When I don't have the time to participate in anything. Currently I'm not going any where.

The length right now is that we also are using it for a madness voting thread. Occasionally a celebrity warrants many comments. But that is reasonably rare.
I probably could have the madness voting in it's own thread for each month. I thought it would be easier to have it all under one thread. Until the main tournament begins.
