DRC May Be Nearing The End.....

I like the idea of JHDK picking up the bills. I know nothing about forum administration but will gladly donate that wide experience to the project.

As long as it's at least somewhere near the cost I've been seeing from some searching, I'm so down. I really want to do this.

I just want to make it clear that my opinion represents only me. If others disagree, then go ahead and change the rules. The most important thing to me is for members to feel welcome. I want Jon, Wolf, and everyone else to stick around. I'd like to see Semi back here again, but that's out of my control.

Honestly I got shit going on right now that would divert my attention, at least for now. It'll probably be like this place where I signed up later on. But we'll see, I won't disappear completely. Will still be in the Fantasy Football League whether I'm at the new place or not.

I favor leaving the death thread as is also, it's not like it's a constant source of friction. Just with architects once in a while haha. Plus one thread is so much more clean.

My only real contention with it is if it were actual celebrities, it'd be about 8 pages shorter. But that's not my decision so it's not real high on the priority list.

The length right now is that we also are using it for a madness voting thread. Occasionally a celebrity warrants many comments. But that is reasonably rare.

Even before that it was filled with folks who don't qualify. But like I said, it's not up to me.

Some people (or a person) are keen on posting every publicly reported death. When a few of us complained, that person decided not to post in that forum for about a year. And that's not what we wanted to happen.

Like I said, we want to be welcoming. We shouldn't be pissing people off. I've had people piss me off, and I left the forum a couple of times. So instead of complaining about whether the deaths are "true" celebrities, we use the seconding rule. And everyone's happy.

Hey, just because you guys never heard of Bruno Biergarten, Clementine Treetwit, Flensy Barggrom, Gronch Yllofswin, Snopsie Maxeltaxer, Donatello Potrzebie, Mimsy Floop, Eduardo Gaspardo Moliardo and Gustav Brinkelmeier Farquahar doesn't mean they aren't celebrities!

Memebag used to have a rule: would they be recognized if they walked into Studio 54? But of course that doesn't work for the guy who played Chewbacca. Or the drummer for Blondie. Or many others.

The trumpet player for Chicago (Lee Loughnane, still alive AFAIK) is a celebrity to me, but not to most of the others on DRC. So it's subjective.

My rule is if 80 percent of the people have heard of them. Dwayne Johnson would qualify, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts, people like that. Even like the guy from the Spinners who's name I didn't know, but I know all their hits. Being a country fan, I've probably heard of a few more people that others might not have, but I think they still qualify. That's usually where the arguments start. I used to always get into arguments with BLyons over who's heard of who, most ones I posted he'd never heard of, my big argument was 'Get off ESPN once in a while, you'll learn something.'

That's my whole point of just posting people without seconding. There wouldn't have to be an argument, we'd just accept that it made news and be done with it. But again, not my decision, and not high on my priority list.

When Keith Richards croaks he'll get his own damn thread!!

While we're talking about old members, wonder if there's a way to post a mass email to anyone who's still has their active email here, see how many come back to say their last goodbyes. Maybe post the new site and see who bites (including a political forum would probably help.)

So if, say, 300 celebrities die in a calendar year, we would have 300 separate threads? Bad idea.
What's so damn bad about it? If you look at the other site, it fills up the subforum quite nicely, and again, it would be a subforum, not based off time, there would be no 'Here's who died in 2024' or anything like that it would be an ongoing subforum with multiple posts.

Is there a reason you're so passionate about this? The celeb death shit must have been bothering you for a while. Sorry man, that sucks.

And I guess you're right. Who cares if we have a death thread pinned subforum with individual threads.

I guess we're just not used to having a dedicated forum with a shit ton of threads that have zero or only a couple replies.

This would be true if we had some of the old people back from the early days of DRC at the new place, because sure as shit there's gonna be arguments, 'Well I've never heard of this guy, he's not a celebrity', I'm just trying to avoid conflict here while still being able to mark the occasion.
