And yet, you posted the video, breaking your own rules.

While one can't argue personal taste, both of you grown men liking a teeny-bopper boy band song is - to me - one step away from being a pedo (don't want to get blocked). And while I've certainly come across the song, it didn't get played on any of the radio stations I listened to at the time (or since). I'm especially confused by IRBS's interest in the song, as you hated the Jackson Five. Also, I can't see a person liking Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins and Hanson. I mean, I like Beck Hanson, but that's different.

It was someone's #1 song which I said I would also post.

I didn't see the video before I heard the song. I liked the song long before I even realized who was singing it. It is catchy. And I am not a boy band guy. This is probably the only boy band song I can say I like.

I don't recall ever saying I hated the Jackson 5. I don't particularly like their music but I wouldn't describe their music as hate.

For the sake of posting a quick reply, I chose the word "hate" instead of spending the time to look-up the actual word you used. IMO, calling the music "crap" qualifies as something you hate. You could've said "I don't like any of his Jackson 5 stuff", but you chose to call it crap.

And again, I understand you are welcome to your opinion. I'm also aware that my dislike for pop music is not shared by a majority of people; otherwise, it wouldn't be "pop".

You are trying to catagorize my musical taste based upon my liking of one song. I like a wide assortment of weird/different/one-off songs which I myself do not understand why. If I look at mmmbop I can't explain why I like it. It is just one of those songs.

I can tell you that I have no pedo desires against any member of the band nor did I ever. That's kind of a low blow. You notice I have never said people who like the "Horse With No Name" were into bestiality or one step away from it.

That's not what I was implying, so sorry if it seemed that way. I see it as old men liking music aimed at pre-teen girls. Whatever that's called. I also feel similarly about older adults who watch animated Disney movies without kids, and older adults who frequently go to Disneyworld without kids (I don't think Koop's old enough to qualify). I'm sure I've pissed-off half of the DRC membership, so I'll apologize in advance, and reiterate that this is only how I look at it, and is not meant to be passing judgement.

Sadchild feels that anyone who drinks is an idiot, and IRBS classifies all pot smokers as drug addicts. But both are able to get along with people in general. Same with me. I can't relate to some of the music preferences, but I chalk it up to personal taste and move on.

So then, one might think "Well, if we all agree that everyone has a right to have their own personal taste, why don't you just STFU, Scotch"? And the answer is, that's what this forum is about; discussing what we think of things. Channel98 hates much of the music I like, and is often vocal about it. And that's OK.

But I shouldn't have expressed my opinion in the way I did.
 
In my defence, I wasn't as old as I was now when I first heard that song. I usually continue to like music I liked when I heard it even after I grow older and theoretically know better.
 
Some strong weirds being thrown around. I don’t like that song but it’s just a song, I don’t think it says much about the person other than the melody, the rhythm, or the beat stuck with someone at the time.

Although having said that I’ll pass judgement on people who like country. Haha

Sometimes my attempts at levity are not well received. I was trying to make a humorous analogy, which doesn't translate well as a typewritten sentence. Maybe next time will be more successful.

And how about the artists themselves? Mellencamp singing "hold onto 16 as long as you can" at age 70 or so. Cheap Trick singing "Surrender" as old men. Alice Cooper singing "I'm 18 and I like it". The Who singing "Hope I die before I get old".
