Deeper playlists = Songs that should not be on the station

Sadly, these artists were also considered "Alternative" in the 1990's:

*Hootie and the Blowfish
*Paula Cole
*Jewel
*Sarah MacLaughlin (and pretty much everything Lillith Fair for that matter)
*Lou Bega ("Mambo No. 5")
*Robbie Williams ("Millennium")

Hell, even the Macarena can be considered Alternative since the song's laugh track was lifted off of Yaz's "Situation".

Now, let us pray to the Lord that the PD of Lithium ain't reading this.

I think Seal must be a case of a bad programmer from the 90s! Maybe in the early nineties songs like "Crazy", "Killer" and even "Prayer For the Dying" had a bit of edge but frankly, they are pop. Maybe Seal gets labeled as alternative because he is black artist but doesn't do traditional R&B....or dance...and he certainly ain't a rapper! Shame. If anything, just about all of Seal's songs could have gotten played on Starlite and they did....until it became the Blend, which is WAAY to open ended by allowing just about anything form any era!

Barenaked Ladies I get. Sorry, but they were one of the biggest alternative rock/pop acts of the nineties, especially the stuff before they broke through with "One Week". It's very much part of the genre. I can't imagine that the signature Lithium artists aren't getting played at all anymore. While a lot of their changes sound lame and like really bad programming from people that don't understand the genre, I think some people just don't want to accept that Lithium might expand to be a little more than just a few CDs by about 8 artists on random.

Sarah, Paula, Jewel....yeah, I guess but just barely. By that later nineties, alt rock was wearing thin as a genre and these girls and their Lillith Fair deal qualifies them.

Robbie Williams...PURE POP! Again, badly confused programmers!

Hottie and the Blowfish....at the time it was "new"(in the way that it sounded like something from the seventies, I guess, and a whole like a bit of a folk but with a pop sensibility).....it straddles the line.

Lou Bega...now they need Jesus! That is not even close!

Honestly, let's start to email. I haven't really listened to Lithium since I got rid of my non working car radio but at this rate, I might get rid of it as a top ten preset on my Stiletto!

I like variety personally. I've never heard of the band you mentioned but it would be a welcome change to Alice in Chains, RHCP, Pearl Jam and soundgarden 8 times a day.
Don't get me wrong I like those band but to hear the singles constantly gets boring. they could at least play deeper songs of these artists.

Yeah.

Pearl Jam has songs called In My Tree, Cropduster, Whipping, and a lot more stuff that's not played.

I thought that's what was meant by "deeper."

Sadly, there's two types of 90's alternative. There's the early Seattle stuff, and there's also the "second phase" like Smashmouth, Barenaked Ladies, and that stuff.
