Between my fractured collarbone and my routine appointments, these past few weeks have been non-stop doctor's offices. I've had an X-ray at the walk-in center, a CT-scan and MRI (separate visits) at the hospital, blood tests at the hospital lab, a dentist visit to get a new crown on my implant, a PCP appt and a cardiology appt. And at nearly all of those places, my WIFI worked when I arrived.
You should have mentioned your coke dealer and local raves.

Here's a random one.

I sometimes get a motel all the way up in West Palm Beach cause Pam works up here and my place (which is about 50 mins from WPB at best) is in the opposite direction of her house. That way we can hang out for a bit before and after her work on Mondays and before on Tuesdays since my weekend is Sunday and Monday.

So I'll be here until Tuesday morning and I'll go in and out a lot. When my key card works through my wallet to open the door it is very convenient and makes me happy. Instead of the very strenuous activity of taking out my wallet, opening it, getting the key out and tapping it on the door (I need to take a nap just thinking about that much work) all I have to do it take out my wallet and tap it on the door.

That makes me smile.

I've mentioned it in the Likes & Dislikes thread, but I can't stress enough how great the "tap to pay" contactless payment technology is on my debit and credit cards. When we'd go to the big local supermarket chain, those credit card payment machines are dealing with a customer every 3 minutes for 12 hours a day, every day. And they probably go for years before replacing them. They'd get so much build-up from use, the swipe or insert would only work like half the time. But the tap always works.

And then at the gas station, when it's 10 degrees out, with a 30 mph wind, and you have gloves on, it's a major pain to get a card from your wallet and insert or swipe it, before starting the pump. It's much easier to just tap. I wonder if the security is as good.

What I really like about the tap is that it also works with my phone. I now can go without my wallet entirely. Also, since the phone has added security of facial id or fingerprint id, there is no tap limit when you tap with your phone (aside from any credit limit you have).

Not every place offers Google or Macintosh Pay.

For me it's a last resort in the rare instance I go somewhere and forgot my wallet. It is convenient though.

IDK about other states or Canada but I'm pretty sure here in FL you need your physical license otherwise you can get a ticket if pulled over. I keep a pic of both sides of my license so if I forget my wallet I will have something but I try to never leave the house without my wallet, phone and keys.

I have my drivers license and my health card loose in my back pocket. Less bulky to just take those 2 things. Those are the only things I physlically need a card for.

I have not found such a place here. I guess if I did I would be SOL and they would not be able to get my business.

Walmart.

Walmart by you takes them?

Same with the biggest grocery store in FL, Publix.

That's like not having a phone case, you are living on the edge my friend.

This is my go to reference if anyone comes into the office and goes to pay by pulling a card out of a hugely thick wallet. I say something like, "Sweet Costanza wallet". Only about 50% of them know what I'm talking about.

My brother-in-law (sister's husband) is one of those guys who's ready for the US monetary system to collapse, and so he carries at least $500 cash on him at all times. He's got a Costanza wallet. Ironically, he spent his entire life hauling scrap metal, so his back is shot. I can't believe he sits on something that thick all the time. It's got to be making his back worse.

Walmart works up here with tap on the phone.
Walmart doesn't expect tap to pay in the U.S. unless you use Walmart Pay. I hardly shop at Walmart if I have to anymore.

In the beginning, I use to do quite a bit tap to pay. I alternate every now and then using my wallet or Apple Pay. Even though my phones does have every credit, debit and medical card on my phone and including insurance and driver license info.

I don't carry a bulky wallet. I use a pop-up wallet to eject my cards. Sometimes, carrying a wallet is getting old now these days.

My partner prefers not to carry one. But he doesn't want all of his info on his phone either.

Your sister is married to a guy who votes like me? That's surprising about your sister. I bet he has some gold as well.

I keep exactly that in my safe at all times (so come rob me if it's worth a few hundo to you) but it's part of my hurricane supply closet. I just don't feel comfortable keeping it loose in a closet.

Unfortunately, yes. He was an uneducated, sheltered, Zionist, racist bigot when I met him, and over 50 years later, he has just gotten worse. But... we managed to vacation together last year in Costa Rica, and have a good time. We all just kept it light.

My brother-in-law (husband of my wife's sister) voted differently than my wife in US elections. I got along with him fine and he actually was a pretty nice guy. He was a evangelical Christian and that likely fuelled his political preferences. My wife would sometimes stir the pot and start discussing hot button issues. On one of our visits he got so mad he stormed out of the room saying that we would all regret it with the Rapture. It was kind of funny. In general I get along fine with him.
