The repainting/restaining is done. Tali and Penny are very proud of how it turned out. As you can see, the rain has made the grass much greener than your typical mid-August.

We decided to have the (previously unfinished) tongue-and-groove ceiling stained a light sky blue, and we went with a lighter brown on the decking (we're told that will hold-up longer).

And the back-up generator is operational. It ran its first weekly test at 2 pm on Wednesday. I'm sure it'll be years now before we lose power again.

Well, the time has come. We're having a thunderstorm, and the power went out. But we still have wifi, brought to us by our Generac backup generator.

I'm sitting on the front porch, watching the light show, and enjoying a cold aperol spritz, because our fridge is still running. Mrs. Scotch is watching TV. It's beautiful. I even flushed the toilet.

I was not aware toilets required power to flush.

I see. Here in the big city water and power are completely independent. Thanx for the clarification.
Yes; once you get into the suburbs, you see a mix of town water/sewer and well/septic. On the plus side, we never get a water/sewer bill. On the downside, we need power, and eventual replacement.

I was wondering what you're doing with your free generator. There's a show called Hot Wheels or something; they take regular cars and trucks and turn them into these ridiculous, wild machines. I thought that would be an idea for your defunct rig.

One positive aspect of going through a summer where it rained on nearly half the days, is that it gave me time to visit my recently partitioned basement listening room. I got to try out all the vinyl albums the kids got me, which was fun, as none of them were plain black vinyl. One was yellow, one was lavender, one was red, and one was white. Anyway, as I listened, I sometimes looked straight ahead, at the concrete wall between my speakers. So I decided to do something about that.

Many years ago, my son-in-law did a listening room thing in their house, and I got him a big wall tapestry for it. I figured the same kind of thing would be perfect for between my speakers. There are a lot of rock-themed tapestries you can order from a website, but I actually came across an image that I thought would be perfect to do as a custom wall piece. It's a still image from Chicago live at Carnegie Hall, which was recorded for their first live album, Chicago IV, in 1974. The photo was taken by Andre Csillag, who I learned was a big pop/rock music photographer and writer. The image has fantastic lighting, and being kind of black and white, it would go with the color-changing lighting I have in the room. So I found a website that does custom tapestries, and I put it together.

This is the tapestry. I especially like the little touches of lighting, like the smoke coming off Terry Kath's cigarette. I attached it to a 2x4 and hung it from the ceiling joists between the speakers.

And this is the overall effect.

This has been a nightmare.
Sold the Generac off and thank God I did. What a disaster of a company. Just got this in the mail, gonna tell the person who bought it:

Remedy:
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled generators and contact Generac for a free repair kit.

Incidents/Injuries:
Generac has received reports of 29 incidents of the generators overheating and pressurizing or expelling fuel when opened, including three incidents resulting in severe burn injuries.
