Concerts you have attended?

I heard an promo that the Eurithmics were coming to Toronto next summer. Now if you are thinking of the Eurithmics you immediately think of the distinctive vocals of Annie Lennox. Well it turns out she will not be on the tour. Not sure why they are even bothering touring without her. A waste of any money spent. I obviously passed.
Are you talking about this?

The Music of Annie Lennox and The Eurythmics Tour Dates in 2023-2024

Because that's all I can find, but having "the music of" in the title implies it's a cover band, although it doesn't say who's in the band. Also, Wikipedia doesn't list any tours for the real band past 2019, except for the RRHOF induction.

I can't find it listed on Ticketmaster either. They did say Dave Stewart was a part of it and they were going to use guest vocalists.

I wonder how Annie feels about someone singing her non-Eurythmics songs? I can see Dave touring the Eurythmics stuff without her (with her blessings), but her solo songs too?

It sounded they had fun at the R&R HOF induction, and there was chatter that they would do some shows together, but it looks like it fell through.

It seems like it would fall flat if it was only Dave.

I've gone to Boston Calling before, but it was a number of years ago. It's an outdoor festival held at the Harvard Sports Complex on Memorial Day weekend. Every year, they post the new lineup, and I've been noticing a trend. Here are the posters for 2022, 2023, and the upcoming 2024 event. See if you can notice anything.

Tyler Childers, The Killers and Hozier are who I'd go to see. Not familiar with anyone else on that list.

I didn't post about this earlier but I am now because it was almost a concert.

I went to see "Queen Rocks Montreal" with my son at the local IMAX theatre tonight. It was a film of a concert from 1981 by Queen in Montreal. It was filmed over 2 nights and digitally remastered and remixed with the help of Queen members.

I have seen Queen with Adam Lambert twice. I really enjoyed those shows. I thought Adam did a fine job keeping the Queen songs alive. In both concerts he has flat out said he is not a replacement for Freddy Mercury. And after seeing this concert, I have to say I agree with him. Freddy was absolutely amazing. Although my son did notice that Freddy was wearing less and less clothes as the night went on. We figured if they did a third encore he would be naked.

It was interesting seeing a concert in this fashion. The view was better than any view you could possibly get at a concert even front row centre. It was amazing seeing Freddy as he was in his prime as well as the other 3 as young men. It was funny seeing the crowd too. All the guys looked pretty much exactly as I did in the early 80s. It was funny seeing a guy taking pictures with an old style camera. Hilarious.

It was cool seeing the encores with no delay.

STONER ANNOYANCE FACTOR (0-10): 0 (it was a movie theatre)

There was one guy who was a bit nuts. He was older than me. He had a cellphone which he had his music on all the time (until the movie started). It was annoying. Would have been worse if he hadn't been an old fart and his music was not stuck in the 70s/80s/90s.

Here is the setlist from the actual concert in Montreal.

1. We Will Rock You (Fast)
2. Let Me Entertain You
3. Play the Game
4. Somebody to Love
5. Killer Queen
6. I'm in Love With My Car
7. Get Down, Make Love
8. Save Me
9. Now I'm Here
10. Dragon Attack
[Now I'm Here] (Reprise)
11. Love of My Life
12. Under Pressure (live debut)
13. Keep Yourself Alive
(Drum Solo)
(Guitar Solo)
14. Flash
15. The Hero
16. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
17. Bohemian Rhapsody
18. Tie Your Mother Down
Encore:
19. Another One Bites the Dust
20. Sheer Heart Attack
Encore 2:
21. Jailhouse Rock (Elvis Presley cover)
22. We Will Rock You
23. We Are the Champions
(God Save the Queen) (played from tape)

You can see they cut out "Flash" and "The Hero".

It was worth the price of admission. It's only here this weekend so if you have a chance in your area, go for it.

  • Trooper & Streetheart [01/20 Casino Rama, Orillia, ON]
This show was last night. I went with my son.

STONER ANNOYANCE FACTOR (0-10): 1 (some wiffs coming from somewhere when the door was open. Likely a washroom)

I will review the bands separately. But first a couple observations. This was the first time I was at this casino without my wife. Had lots of thoughts about that. As always we enjoyed some gambling beforehand and wound up with no cash (we always only bring the cash we are prepared to lose). I have seen both these bands before at this venue both times with my wife. They were not together previously. They each were with different bands each as the opener. I like the venue. This time we were off to the side in the third row of the second block of seats (the first block with stadium seating) right against the wall. We were facing a giant video board so that was good. The sound was also good as it always is here.

Streetheart

This is the second time I have seen them. The first they were backing up for Chilliwack in 2022. From the setlist people, they always do a standard 11 song set pretty much everywhere. Today they did a short set. They said to make more time for Trooper. They lost their lead singer several years ago. The replacement sounds a lot like him. My son and I both liked them. He added 2 if the songs "Snow White" and "One More Time" to his Spotify playlist. They cut out 2 of my favourite songs of theirs: "Here Comes The Night" and "Tin Soldier", Below is the setlist. I post their standard one marking the ones they didn't do with a strike-through mark.

Setlist:
1. Action
2. Hollywood
3. Can You Feel It
4. Here Comes the Night (Lulu cover)
5. Tin Soldier (Small Faces cover)
6. Teenage Rage

7. Look In Your Eyes
8. What Kind of Love Is This
9. One More Time
10. Snow White
11. Under My Thumb (The Rolling Stones cover)

Trooper

This is also the second time I saw them. I saw them backing up Loverboy in 2020. I enjoyed them in 2020. However, I found out that the original lead vocalist and guitarist (the last 2 founding members) left the band in 2021. I found this out in the intermission. The guitar replacement was good. The vocal replacement, was not. He actually would have been adaquate if he had stuck to the original pace and tempo of the songs. He did not. He was also goofy looking and a poor showman. The only good thing he did was include a couple songs they did not do at the last show. He also added some songs which nobody had any idea what they were. I base this on the lack of singing, clapping along or dancing among the crowd. I would rather they have cut these and let Streetheart do a full set. The songs were not any worse than the rest of his performance but they were a waste of time. They also did 3 instrument solos. I think I have made it known I hate these. The only good thing about them, is if you know when they are coming, it is a potential time to relieve one's bladder (which is what I figure the purpose of them is -- for the band).

My son pointed out with no founding members, we were seeing a cover band. He did not enjoy them one bit. I tried to enjoy the parts of the songs I recognized and that he did reasonably close replication of the original. I do like Trooper's music. But I will not see another Trooper show. Note they did an encore but it wasn't really by audience demand. People started leaving around the keyboard solo and was pretty heavy once they finished "Raise a Little Hell" and left the stage. Part of the reason is most shows at this venue do not do encores.

Setlist (songs with ?? I am guessing at title based upon repeating lyrics):
1. We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)
2. 3 Dressed Up as a 9
3. Baby Woncha Please Come Home
4. Two for the Show
5. Ready
6. ?? Thin White Line
7. Boy With a Beat
(drum solo)
(guitar + drum duet)
8. ?? Roller Rink
9. Round, Round We Go
10. Boys Are Back In Town (Thin Lizzy cover)
11. General Hand Grenade
12. Santa Maria
(keyboard solo)
13. Janine
14. Oh, Pretty Lady
15. The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car
16. Raise a Little Hell
Encore:
17. Listen To The Music (Doobie Brothers cover)
18. We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time)

Upcoming Shows:

2024:
  • Foreigner & Styx [06/14 Budweiser Stage, Toronto, ON]

I found out that Creed is visiting Toronto the day after my wife's birthday. The tickets were reasonably cheap too. Kind of surprised they were at the Scotiabank Arena (they are also doing a summer show @ Budweiser stage but tickets were much pricier and in a non-covered section). I would not have expected them to be in a major venue. Given my love and sentimental attachment to 2 of their songs and the proximity to my wife's birthday and the price of the tickets, I bought a pair. My son is going to go with me.

Couch Tour is back!!!

I know this isn't really attending the show but I like having the option to pay for the livestream. This is the first Phish tour since Covid of course and I'm delighted to have them back. They have already played a few shows on this tour but this is the first one I'll be watching live. They are in Nashville tonight and tomorrow and I bought both streams. It winds up being about $21.50 each. IDK, that's kinda pricy but to me it's worth the 3 hours of entertainment they will provide.

They start at 8...Less than an hour to go!

Also this will be the first time I watch them live on my giant TV so that will be nice. Time to fire up a fresh new candle for the event!

:band:

So Im watching my first couch tour since almost exactly 2 years ago, 2.27.22. And Phish played at the same venue, Riviera Maya Mexico. (What, what Scotch...I know that's your spot!!!)

This is the first show I've seen live at my (somewhat) new place. And I have those cool LED lights glued to the back of the TV that are connected to a camera that stares at the screen and changes the ambient colors in tune with what's on the screen. Also I can blast my speakers since I have no neighbors. This has been a fun show.

It's a bit pricey though, $30 for the live webcast. That's like PPV boxing or MMA prices, but its worth it. 3+ hours of live entertainment from my all time fav band. To me these guys are better than the Beatles....and The Beatles are up there with Chopin and Bach in terms of best music ever created by humans.

I kinda want to spend another $30 to watch their show tomorrow.

I wonder how many morons like me buy this stream? It must make them profit or they wouldn't do it. I mean the live show is sold out in person all 4 nights. It's a smaller venue, only like 7 to 10k ppl from what I read. And they all had the cash to schlep their asses to Mexico so I imagine they must have like at least 5k minimum idiots like me willing to shill out $30 for the webcast each night.
