- Duran Duran / with Chic [09/19 Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, ON]
This concert was tonight. Had a 3rd band as opener "Bastille". This turns out to be the main reason my son got me the tickets for Fathers Day as he wanted to see them do one of his favourite songs "Pompeii". I will cover each band separately. But first:
STONER ANNOYANCE FACTOR (0-10): 1.
There were some 45-50 year old women ahead of me which were generally annoying. Doing the standing and dancing and acting like 20somethings all the time mainly. Not that big a deal as the stadium had stadium seating.
Bastille
I was not familiar with any of his/their music. But he was funny in a self-depricating way and I liked all of his music. So I had a good time. No song I liked enough to add to my library.

Chic
I should have said "Nile Rogers & Chic" as that is how it was billed. There was little doubt about who's ego was being stroked with this one. The ego stroking was generally annoying starting with the taped intro and going on throughout the show. On a personal level, I dislike him because of that. However, he certainly did some good songs and their performance was generally flawless. I knew the Chic songs but I did not know he did the big Sister Sledge songs, the big Diana Ross songs in the early 80s, some big Bowie 80s songs and some big Madonna songs and others. He did those also tonight. Generally good renditions although they butchered "We Are Family" something horrible. Occasional caterwauling from one of the singers who sang in an irritating high voice should have been avoided. And it would have been cool if they could have incorporated "Another One Bites The Dust" in "Good Times" like they did with "Rappers Delight" as both those songs derive from "Good Times" but they did not. But an enjoyable show despite comments above.

Duran Duran
This show started with a big strike. The warmup tape contained the stupid nameless horse song. For shame.
But I enjoyed their 80s stuff that I recognized. Their other stuff was ok. The unfamiliar seemed to be grouped together which caused me to sort of disconnect from the flow a bit. Their new song ("Danse Macabre"), which is dropping in November, is ok.
They did make excellent use of the video boards behind the stage (all 3 bands did). It would have been nice if they showed the "Rio" video and some of their cool videos with the songs but they did not. It also did have a plus of no guitar or drum solos. Generally a good show. And a nice dinner at The Spagetti Factory before as well.
