I think that one of the guys that's still in the band just settled a lawsuit over t-shirt sales or something.
It's like the business entities are doing one thing, and the band is just carrying on to spite them.
2 of them quit and then they got sued or they sued. Then the opposing party counter-sued. I just don't remember who or how it was settled. For all I know everybody is back in the band, This was in 2021.

Sounds like Ratt

Ratt’s 1999 self-titled album went largely unnoticed, followed by a 2000 tour without Pearcy – his spot filled by Love/Hate frontman Jizzy Pearl. A legal battle over the band name ensued, and a judge eventually ruled that Blotzer and DeMartini owned the trademark. Pearcy, however, still toured under the name “Stephen Pearcy’s Ratt”.

In 2015, Blotzer assumed full control of the Ratt brand and announced a “Ratt Experience” tour with himself as the only original member, to which DeMartini unsuccessfully sued him. Meanwhile Croucier also announced his own Ratt touring band to which Blotzer unsuccessfully sued him.

I just remember hearing about the t-shirt / merch suit 4 or 5 months ago.

On most of the shows recently, it's been Marshall Crenshaw on vocals. Sometimes it's the guy from Gin Blossoms, Robin Wilson. I'd say it's about a 65/35 MC/RW split. They're actually releasing a "new" album next month called "The Lost Album". They recorded it in 1993-ish when they were between labels.
I can't remember if I mentioned The Smithereens show I referenced above was postponed last November. It's happening tonight.

Absolute blinder of a show, as they always deliver the goods. This is the only photo I have ( my phone didn't leave my pocket all night - my wife took this 'un ). I kinda wish I had kept track of the set list, but it was a great mix of the hits, album tracks, & a handful of covers ( "No Matter What", "Please Please Me" & even an impromptu version of the Chipmunks Christmas song when Jim Babjak's amp head when kablooey ). Tired as hell today, but so worth it.

EDIT : someone put up the set list. The Smithereens Setlist at Knuckleheads Garage, Kansas City

Someone is always putting up a setlist. Sometimes that someone is me (not in this case). Before I fully read your post I was going to post it for you.

Glad you enjoyed the show.
And sometimes that someone is me! Usually, I keep quicky notes, but just decided to not bother this time - wanted to be 100% present since they're one of my all-time favorite bands & I've hardly seen any live music the last 3 years. And the set list for this one literally popped in there between my writing about the show & posting about it here.

Very cool. I'm bummed I didn't get to see them with Pat, I'll have to try to make it if they come around here.
I can't remember if I've written about it here, but for YEARS I was the victim of what I called The Smithereens Curse. I got into them almost from the start, with the release of "Especially For You" in the mid-80's. But for whatever reason, over the years every time I planned on seeing them live something would come up that kept me from getting to the show. Emergencies, bad weather - you name it. I did get to see & meet Pat live solo back in 2000, but that was as close as I ever got up to then.

But of all ways for the curse to finally end...I ended up seeing them for FREE as part of a shopping center's "Summer Concert Series" in suburban KC back in 2013 ( I saw Urge Overkill the same way that same week - it was a REALLY good week ). They did a meet 'n' greet after the show, & I got to tell Pat about The Curse. He got a good chuckle out of it.

So when this show was postponed last November, I figured The Curse was back. And then a couple weeks ago, their guitarist Jim Babjak got Covid. I expected another postponement ( at least ), but the show went on. Jim seemed fine ( despite being amusingly half in the bag by the end of the show ) Friday night.

When I covered them in my favorites list (Scotch Sampler), I mentioned that they were a kind-of hometown band for me. In the early 80s, they were regulars at Maxwell's in Hoboken, while I was in college there at Stevens Tech. I have friends who were very close with Pat. Needless to say, I was a big fan of the band and their music.

Love "Girl Like You" "Top Of The Pops" and "Only A Memory" but I woulda wanted "Too Much Passion" "Yesterday Girl" and especially "Blues Before And After".

I seen couple of concerts this month. Carrie Underwood and Skillet with Theory of A Deadman. Both concerts were great and there was another opening band for the Skillet concert, Saint Asonia or part of Three Days Grace.

I will be seeing Reba McEntire this week and since I’m halfway through the concert list for 2023. So I added couple more. :p

The Offspring with Simple Plan and Sum 41
