Here's a twist. Target has embraced Kristen Wiig's Crazy Target Lady SNL character, by having her star in new Target ads. This also coincided with her recent 5th time hosting SNL.

I'm sure everyone sees bad local commercials. I think they purposely make them bad to be memorable. But for this local home-buying company, what's bad is the physical qualities of the 2 guys themselves, which you can't really fake. Every time I see these guys, I think that if you could create a hybrid of their 2 necks, you'd have one normal-necked guy.

In 2017, Shannon Klingman M.D. created Lume (pronounced "loo-mee") Whole Body Deodorant for women. It was so successful, she created Mando Whole Body Deodorant – "for pits, packages + feet" – for men. Lume commercials are tasteless, offensive and disgusting. Here is one from 2022:

Yes, I was considering posting my most hated commercials, and that's one of them. Not only is the description distasteful, but they pick a spokesperson whose unmentionables you don't want to look at.

The reason I decided not to post my most-hated commercial list, is because most of them are for prescription drugs, and they're pretty much all horrible. But this one deserves special mention

I didn't like the possible side effects.

There are a few local election ads running here that I think you'll find entertaining. The point is not about the political candidate (who none of you know), but the person featured in the ad.

Apparently, they combed the entire state of Maine, and found the guy with the absolute best Maine accent. He's a fisherman, of course.

Is that a typical Maine accent? Had I just listened to that with no context, I’d have no clue where he would be from. At times I thought heard a bit of Welsh in there.

这很尴尬. Here is a 1958 Jell-O animated commercial with stereotypes of Chinese people and an announcer talking with a stereotyped Chinese accent.

Sounds a lot like a Newfoundland accent.
It's an authentic, old-school downeast Maine accent. It's actually related to the Boston Brahmin dialect, which is how the Kennedys' spoke. And it might be similar to accents in the Canadian maritime.

But just like how few Bostonians speak like the Kennedys, few Mainers today sound like that guy. Which is why it's so ridiculous.

On a side but somewhat related note, the new Matt Damon film The Instigators has a lot of typical Boston accents, mannerisms and expressions. It was an ok movie, worth a watch. But while watching it I kept thinking, "I bet most people think the way these people act and talk probably seems pretty entertaining to most people, but it's very common to me."
