Rock made a joke - as a comedian, that's his job. You may think it was mean-spirited, but it was really not any different than many of the jokes made by the hosts, or by hosts like Ricky Gervais.

Will Smith walked on stage and committed assault, then refused to leave when asked to. And then he got up and received an award to a standing ovation.

It seems obvious as to who should apologize or be punished.
