LaBelle recorded a version of Moon Shadow in 1972 – and it's awful! It's every bit as bad as their 1975 hit Lady Marmalade. I am not sadistic enough to share it here. I like this version by Mandy Moore from her Coverage album, released October 21, 2003.

Chase was an instrumental rock band founded by Bill Chase. The sound was along the lines of Chicago and Blood, Sweat, and Tears. But instead of a horn section with trumpet, sax, and trombone, it was 4 trumpets. Of course my brother - the trumpet player - bought this album right away.

Here's a very 1971-like performance of Get It On. I think this aired on the Smothers Brothers Show.

I'd never even heard of this song, let alone actually hearing it before I did in the car Saturday morning. And as it played I literally said out loud "Oh, it's Blood, Sweat, and Chicago".

Get It On, which ends with the same notes as the end of Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, peaked at #24 on the July 31 1971 Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #22 on the Cash Box Top 100 that same week. In Los Angeles, the song got to #14 on the July 14 1971 KHJ Thirty. Chase released seven more singles including a version of Theme From Superman but never had another top-40 hit. Here is BoChaWa from September 1974. The title is a combination of "Bo" (nickname of trumpeter Jerry Van Blair), "Cha" (for trumpeter Bill Chase) and "Wa" (for organist Wallace Yohn).
