The Entertainer was written by Scott Joplin in 1902 and was first recorded by the Blue Boys – guitarist Napoleon "Nap" Hayes and mandolinist Matthew Prater, from Vicksburg, Mississippi – in 1928. Joplin never recorded the song but On December 29, 1902, he made a piano roll of The Entertainer for player pianos. Kids, ask your great-grandparents what a player piano is.
