Brother Louie was written by Hot Chocolate band members Errol Brown and Tony Wilson. The band's original recording of the song reached #7 on the UK singles chart on April 14 1973. The remake by Ian Lloyd & Stories went to number one in the U.S. and Canada four monrhs later. The first hit song about interracial love was Society's Child, written and recorded by 14-year-old Janis Ian in 1965. It was released by Verve Folkways in September 1966. Many stations refused to play it – but many did. The single was re-released in May 1967 by Verve Records, parent company of Verve Folkways. It reached #14 on the Hot 100 in July.
