Paul "Ace" Frehley was lead guitarist with Kiss from 1973 to 1982 and from 1996 to 2002. New York Groove reached #13 on the Hot 100 in the last week of January 1979. From 1984 to 1995, he led a band called Frehley's Comet. They had one hit, Into The Night, which peaked at #27 on the mainstream rock chart in June 1987. Both songs were written by Argent lead singer Russ Ballard, who also wrote America's You Can Do Magic and Hot Chocolate's So You Win Again. In 1992, Kiss recorded God Gave Rock & Roll To You, another Russ Ballard composition. The original version by Argent was a #18 U.K. hit in 1973.

At hockey games I hear some sort of modern remake of this song. Pretty bad but this likely has revived interest in the original like the country version of "Fast Cars" did for the Tracy Chapman version (unlike the "September" remake, the country "Fast Cars" was pretty good).
