That sucks!
On the bright side:
- If it had to happen, at least it was a beautiful day, and not raining or snowing.
- Even though they are expensive and aren't fun, tires need to be replaced once and a while. (Fortunately they weren't new tires.)
- Even though you didn't get to spend your stimi on something fun, at least you didn't have to spend from your savings.
- At least there wasn't any damage to your shiny new car.

Yes, I thought about the upsides you mentioned. The alloy wheels weren't damaged, and the whole tire thing was a mystery when I bought the car. They looked decent, as if they were recently replaced. But now I find out that those tires were discontinued, so they were old. It's just that nobody drove the car much. If I realized that when I bought the car, I would've replaced them at that time. Just the cost of doing business.

Were the new tires stupid expensive?
I hate buying tires. Mine are pretty standard, but I'm due to get new ones in the next few months.

I think the obvious explanation to all this is that Mrs. Scotch just hates your cars.

I've been really lucky w/my tires. I guess they were replaced right before I bought my car because while they look good I always expect the mechanic to say I need replacements but so far (for around 2.5 years now) he comes back telling me they're good.

You drive in a place where the roads don't freeze and thaw repeatedly creating potholes. The only reason you get a pothole is because the road paver pocketed the money for asphalt and put in bubble gum instead.

That's the main factor.

When I got the car, it was turning to winter, and so I spec'd out new tires, in case the ones the car came with wouldn't go in the snow. I didn't end up needing new tires then, but with all the ancillary costs, they would've been about $200/tire mounted on the car. And those are regular tires (not run-flats). The ones the dealer just put on were $300/tire, but they're run-flats. Unfortunately, I wasn't in a position to order tires online and have them put on by some garage who wouldn't care whether they were run-flats or not. But the stimulus check covered 90% of it.

That's not as bad as I thought they might be.
I think the last time I got tires, they were close to $200.
I don't get anything fancy, I just make sure they are reliable all season tires.

Well I drove over a glass bottle today when parking. I heard this pop and thought I scrapped my rim against a curb or something when wrong with an axel but then when I left I saw the crushed bottle.

So far so good though, no flat tire and no visible glass shards sticking out of any tires. Hopefully I got lucky and won't wake up to a flat tomorrow.

Going with a friend to an alfa romeo club curvy road run. My wife and I drove the course last weekend. We used to be all over those roads in my porsche. Let's see what this alfa can do.

A real Alfa? Or a Miata with an Alfa badge? Although it probably handles well anyway.

I am endlessly fascinated with the President's car and how it's really a tank that looks like a limo.

Those things are cool. It's a lot like my Ford Focus with nicer tires. And a place to store the blood.

I saw Jimmy Carter's drive past me when I was a kid.
They have a few president's old limos at the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan not too far from Detroit. They Have John F Kennedy's and Roosevelt's, and Reagan's too.

2020 Stelvio. Mostly baby boomer's with 60-70's model Giulia spiders veloce, sprint veloce, couple 2000 GT's and a couple twin sparks. Got caught behind a big dodge ram. But broke free eventually. It was the equivalent of smoking 4 packs of cigarettes running behind those older models. The wife and I scouted their rout last weekend, which we'd run many times in my older porsche, and I'm glad we did. One of the nastier runs they didn't use had some super tight curves that I knew were there but he did not. It's his wife's new car so I did my best not to dump it but also give him a jolt!

Those are cool. It sounds like a fun bit of driving.
I‘ve always liked Alphas, but heard they needed a lot of maintenance. I wasn’t sure if that’s accurate or not.

A buddy has a Boxter that he had outfitted to do club racing. The thing scoots.

Did I mention that I have a Focus????

Maybe I've asked this before...I have a finite number of ideas...but in Continuum the terrorists are hitting the gas supply.

Made me wonder, any of you old enough to remember the gas shortage in the 70's? Why did that happen? Also you could only get gas on even or odd days depending on the last digit of your plate number right?

When hurricanes are coming we have to line up for gas. I've waited like 45 mins. Not really so bad.
