You think 229 is a ridiculous number? How about this: including duets, Drake has had 402 Hot 100 hits, 90 top-40 hits and 14 number ones. But wait – there's more! Twenty-one of Drake's chart hits have included Future. Two went to number one: Way 2 Sexy in September 2021 and Wait For U in May 2022.

And I honestly couldn't name 1 of the 402.

Canadian rapper and singer Drake has released 189 singles (including 106 as a featured artist)

It makes no sense that an artist who has released 189 singles has 402 charted songs on the Hot 100. BROKEN CHART!!

One of the factors that goes into the Hot 100 is streaming. This week, July 25 2026, all 17 songs from Future's new album are on the Hot 100. Radio, which debuted at #68 on the July 11 chart and then dropped off, re-enters at #46. The other 16 songs debut at, respectively, 23, 28, 29, 33, 37, 38, 48, 52, 54, 58, 64, 76, 83, 93, 97 and 98. Drake songs are at 11, 25, 55, 61, 82 and 88.

Like I've been saying for years, a radio station playing a song is an investment. Buying a record, tape, CD or even MP3 is an investment. Counting streaming is bullshit.

Today, class, we're going to learn about "consumption units." This December 16 2025 Billboard article explains how streaming is now morer importanter than ever:

Billboard charts to add more weight to on-demand srtreaming in 2026
The change is being implemented to reflect an increase in streaming revenue, along with changing music consumption behaviors.

Starting in January, the Billboard charts will add more weight to on-demand streaming to better reflect an increase in streaming revenue and changing consumer behaviors. As part of the change, paid/subscription on-demand streams will continue to be weighted more favorably compared to ad-supported on-demand streams, with the ratio between the two tiers narrowing from 1:3 to 1:2.5 based on analysis of streaming revenue.

Currently, each album consumption unit equals one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. Effective for the Billboard 200 and corresponding genre album consumption charts dated January 17 (encompassing data from January 2-8), each album consumption unit will now equal 2,500 ad-supported or 1,000 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album (sales and download metrics will remain the same).

The change means that it will take 33.3% fewer ad-supported on-demand streams of songs from an album and 20% fewer paid/subscription on-demand streams of songs from an album, to equal an album unit. The ratio between paid/subscription and ad-supported on-demand streaming tiers will additionally be adjusted to 1:2.5 for the Billboard Hot 100, along with corresponding streaming and song consumption charts.

"Music companies including Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music, HYBE, Believe, Concord, Mom+Pop Music, Partisan Records, Dirty Hit and Glassnote Records have proposed a set of principles for how AI-generated songs should be considered for chart eligibility. The proposal sets out four eligibility guidelines for songs that use AI to be included on music charts: that the AI platform used to create a song is authorized; that the song complies with copyright laws, related rights and personality rights; that the use of AI within the song is properly communicated and labeled; and that the track is primarily created by a human and does not raise chart manipulation or streaming concerns."
