On the Hot 100 dated September 2, 1995, Michael Jackson's You Are Not Alone became the first song to debut at number one. Four weeks later, Mariah Carey's Fantasy debuted at number one. To date, 80 songs have debuted at number one. Seven are by Taylor Swift. Nine (including duets) are by Drake and seven (including duets) are by Ariana Grande.
I recognize the first 10 (that happened 1995-1998). The rest (2003 and after), I don't recognize. Chart was broken by then.

The Rock Chart is broken too. It's a perfect example of a chart based on people going "oh look, something shiny!" when a song from 2001 shoots from nowhere to #1

@Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" debuts at No. 1 on this week's Hot Hard Rock Songs chart thanks to streaming and sales gains after the June 26 release of the "Hate to Love: Nickelback" documentary on @netflix

Eminem becomes the 19th artist in history to chart at least 100 total songs on the chart, and now has the 11th-most entries of all time.

But it wasn't until recently you could have every song from an album enter the chart. If that were the case, the Beatles would've had 500 entries on the Hot 100. Same with Michael Jackson. And The Rolling Stones. And.....

It's not the same rules. BROKEN CHART!

More ranting:

Drake now leads all artists with a whopping 333 total entries on the chart in his career (through the Hot 100 dated July 27, 2024). He’s the only artist to chart at least 300 total songs in history. Only two other acts have charted at least 200: Taylor Swift (264) and the Glee cast (207).

Sorry, not acknowledged.

While it’s rare for artists to chart triple-digit entries on the Hot 100, it has become a more regular occurrence since the ranking began including streaming figures in 2007. As such, some artists have been able to chart a high number of songs on the Hot 100 after releasing high-profile albums. The model contrasts with prior decades, when acts generally promoted one single at a time in the physical-only marketplace and on radio. That shift in consumption helps explain why artists have been able to chart many songs over short spans in recent years.

That would be like shrinking the size of a football field in half. Now there's 70 touchdowns a game. And a whole bunch of NEW WORLD RECORDS!!!........ Uh, no. Not the same game.

So, not the same chart!

The first artist to dominate a chart was Len Spencer. From 1896 to 1899, Phonoscope magazine published a monthly list of the three best-selling phonograph records. This is from March 1897:

1. Oh, Mr. Johnson, Turn Me Loose - Len Spencer
2. My Gal Is A Highborn Lady - Len Spencer
3. A Hot Time In The Old Town - Len Spencer

That first recording is not on YouTube but here is a version by minstrel Singer Silas Leachman, best known for his 1894 hit Dem Golden Slippers:

Drake's 30th top 5 hit pushes him past The Beatles' record of 29. The iconic band held the record for over 55 years. Their song “The Long and Winding Road”/”For You Blue,” was their last to reach No. 1 on the chart.

Madonna's Like A Prayer (not to be confused with Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer) is on the Deadpool Vs. Wolverine soundtrack but it is not on the new Billboard Hot 100 (for the week of August 3). Those chart-topping Korean artists made it though: Jimin's Who debuted at #14 and the Stray Kids' Chk Chk Boom debuted at #49. Among the other songs on the Deadpool Vs. Wolverine soundtrack are AC/DC's Hells Bells, *NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye, the Goo Goo Dolls' Iris, the Stray Kids' Slash and – don't ask me why – John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John's You're The One That I Want from the 1978 Grease movie.

Post Malone released an album earlier this month with 18 songs on it. All 18 songs are on the Hot 100 this week. Plus he has a 19th entry as a guest on someone else's song.

Pretty soon Elvis and The Beatles will be in 50th and 80th place for "most entries on the Hot 100" under this new bullshit system.
