Better processor

I have the sandybridge i5, 2500k (3.30 GHz) on an ASUS p8p67 MOBO and it's amazing. I generally would overclock all my CPUs to over 4 GHz to get games to play at max, but this one does it at stock. I've seen people over clocking the i5 and i7 to near 5GHz. I've built many computers over the years, and this one is not only best bang for the buck, it's best bang, period.

My HP Media Center was my first AMD, it is a quad core. My Mac has a Intel i5 chip, seems faster to me.
 
My experience is that Intel kicks the shit out of AMD in speed and the processors produce less heat.

For a while AMD was getting better than Intel but about 3-4 years ago AMD for some reason dropped the ball and at the same time Intel really picked up it's game and has just been widening the gap since then. Performance and price. Right now and the forseeable future Intel is much better than AMD.

I guess, I have always found them slower, to run much hotter, though overall to be cheaper. We built several systems with them a long while back and those things were always so much slower than the Intel Machines. We eventually quit building and starting buying HP via state contract pricing. It was actually cheaper and with the service agreements because of huge state bulk buying, it was no longer worthwhile to build. We switched to Intel and I instructed my IT guys to never buy another AMD processor again. That still holds true even now!

Starting in July we are moving to Mac's and of course means we'll be staying with Intel. I was reading that Apple actually did some prototypes using AMD, but the heat and slower speed pretty much killed any chance of that happening.
 
And I remember the days when Mac wouldn't go anywhere near Intel. Their computers got better when they finally did.

I remember getting and iBook back when Apple was using those G processors. I made a mistake and bought a personalized model and Apple refused to take it back because of that. I sold it the next day on Ebay for the same price a paid for it as I just wanted my money back. Left a bitter taste and I swore I'd never have a Mac again. That is until the Intel Processors started being used. My first official Mac was a 2008 MacMini, then I got a 2009 MacBook Pro. Now I have a 2011 Mac Mini Server. Still have all the others too. So much for never buying a Mac. LOL
 
I just did some benchmarking on the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1230
(8M Cache, 3.20 GHz) and I can tell you that it's a frikkin beast. There aren't many options for motherboards though.
