Are They A One-Hit Wonder?

That band always reminds me of

Yesterday was OHW Wednesday on my local FM station. It is true they do not specifically say any song they play is a OHW and they play non-OHW as well but they had these songs in an hour I was listening last night:
  • Survivor - Eye of the Tiger
  • Rick Springfield - Jessie's Girl
  • Simple Minds - Don't Forget about Me
  • Wall of Voodo - Mexican Radio
  • Weather Girls - It's Raining Men
3 of them are clearly not OHW (I guess they each have one song that is still played by this FM station). The last song wasn't even a hit. So of the list only 1 legitimate OHW.

Ugly Kid Joe
#6 "Cat's In The Cradle"
#9 "Everything About You"

As a rock guy, "Everything" is still remembered but "Cradle" isn't (in my experience). But in the pop world, I think they're both forgotten.

I liked both. They are both on various cassettes/playlists I have. I think "Cats In The Cradle" was pretty much generally forgotten about after it fell of the charts. If you hear the song now its the original.

KT Tunstall
#20 "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree"
#21 "Suddenly I See"

The single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" was given the Q Magazine Award for Best Track in 2005, and "Suddenly I See" won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song in 2006.

I still hear both songs, and not just on SXM. Like in the grocery store or people's Pandora stations. Not subjectively a OHW. Woohoo .... woohoo ... woohoo ...

She's good, my daughter just saw her in concert. Yes, I hear both songs, probably Black Horse more. I think she's got a few others too.

#2 "Replay"
#32 "Solo"
#43 "Pretty Girls"

"Shorty's like a melody in my head that I can't keep out, got me singin' like...." I heard "Replay" at Disney last week. My wife started singing along. I know my son knows the song too. But I think it's the only song he'll be remembered for. I don't know the other two and suspect most others don't either. Subjective OHW.

121 two hit wonders posted. 7 more and we have a bracket!

Don't tell Wolfie or it will be Madness.

Switchfoot
#17 "Dare You To Move"
#18 "Meant To Live"

I know "Meant To Live" for sure. It's their breakout hit and I still hear it here, there and almost everywhere. I didn't know "Dare" was a hit until recently, and I don't think I've ever heard it outside of me playing that album on my own. But ... both singles are certified Gold. Subjectively a OHW?

My Chemical Romance
#9 "Welcome To The Black Parade"
#33 "Helena"
#41 "Under Pressure" (with The Used)

Not a fan (though I do like their cover of "Under Pressure"). No clue if the pop world considers them a 1, 2 or zero hit wonder these days.

They have a bunch of other hits on the hot 100 that probably topped the alternative charts, such as I'm Not Okay. They're a straight-up Alt rock/Emo band, not a pop band.

My son got me interested in them. I bought their album "The Black Parade" and have 3 songs rated from the album not including the #33 and #41 songs you list above. I would say not at least to me.

Jet
#29 "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"
#37 "Look What You've Done"
#55 "Cold Hard Bitch"

Kinda like the Romantics, I think they're 1st and 3rd highest charting singles are their best-known. I don't know "Look What You've Done". For the mainstream world (not the rock world) I'd say they're subjectively a OHW.

I can almost guarantee you (although nothing's a guarantee with you) that you would recognize Look What You've Done. Nobody knows it's Jet, but it's a nice ballad that gets airplay on both the alt rock and AC stations.

Guessing that either Scotch or IRBS will say they've never heard the #5 song.

(like I have room to talk lol, quite a few songs get mentioned here, post-1990 that I do not know)

I listened to both in case I recognized either by the song and not the name and I can safely say I did not hear either.
