Annoying Words & Phrases

Football one: completed catch. What other types are there?

ETA: I think the announcer means "completed pass" but I have heard them use catch a lot.
 
Is the ball just making it out of the infield? Middle of the outfield? Close to the warning track?

I think LFB is an acceptable ok phrase to say.
 
From George Carlin's bit about in-flight announcements:

“…enjoy your stay in Chicago or wherever your final destination might be.”… All destinations are final. That’s what it means “destiny”, “final.” If you haven’t gotten where you’re going, you aren’t there yet.
 
I like Carlin's bit. But technically if you have a layover, that's two destinations.

I guess I have to defend the term 'final destination' since, well...

That's a connection, or a stop. The destination is always where you want to end up, regardless of whether it's direct, or through connections.

Note that I avoided the term "non-stop" flight. He hated that, too. "Oh, I don't like that at all. I insist that my flight stops; preferably at my destination".

The Ralphs supermarket website is updated every Wednesday with new offers and digital coupons. Today there is this headline:

Order ahead for Thanksgiving. Order premade sides, desserts and main dishes by 11/26.

They aren't just "made." No, they're pre-made. And we have to "order ahead." We can't order our Thanksgiving food after Thanksgiving is over – although, if we could, it might be cheaper.
 
People often mistake defcon 4 for defcon 1. I find that annoying.1 is like you are seconds away from a fight. 4 is something like you're a bit more concerned than on a typical day.
 
While I'm on the topic of government jargon....

NORAD pisses me off. It's not an acronym. It's not an abbreviation for what it's actually called. I guess it's supposed to stand for North Radar??? But that's just a guess.

What NORAD actually stands for is: North American Aerospace Defense Command.

Which would be: NAADC.

It's annoying. But the organization is cool how it's both us and Canada. But the real cool thing they do is their Santa tracker every Christmas Eve. I'm pretty sure I've checked it every year since it's been a thing. Got to keep tabs on Santa.

The cracked and spalling – look it up – Vincent Thomas Bridge connecting San Pedro to Terminal Island will be closed as early as next year so the concrete can be patched, repaired and strengthened. Nearby residents are dreading increased traffic and pollution. Headline in today's Los Angel;es Times:

I have to give them credit though; at least "harbor-geddon" sounds like "armageddon". It's a lot better than "snow-mageddon".

The first time I ever heard of the Armageddon play on words was also California. Didn't they shut down part of the 405 a few years ago around LA and they called it carmageddon? So now all this shit in California when stuff shuts down is cuz something...geddon.

As I recall from Florida so who knows what it was actually like. Well, I guess channel does, turned out carmageddon wasn't that big a deal.

In 2011 and 2012, LA Metro shut down the 405 freeway in both directions between the 10 and 101 freeways over an entire weekend. It was known as “Carmageddon.”

For me, the only acceptable time to add -geddon to a word or phrase are things that may actually end the planet or the life on it. Things like Covidgeddon, Ebolageddon, Nuclearbombgeddon and Nickelbackgeddon.
