Heading to space seems fun. I'd totally do it in his position.

And you're strapped to a giant gas tank to simplify things, even when the capsule disconnects. So if it explodes I very much doubt any pain is felt.

Probably a good idea to have an iron clad will before any liftoff for any man, but especially the richest man in the world.

And he doesn't run Amazon anymore so even if he dies his legacy goes on and he dominates the news cycle for like a week. For a narcissist who perhaps is above the term due to his status, it's worth the risk. Even more so, if Elon on Branson or more importantly NASA ever does anything in space after and better than he, his name will always be at worst a footnote in the conversation.

Rich or poor...it's a cool thing to get to do. Live or die. Also the old guys were all air force, real men.

But we should not forget the Apollo guys who died on the platform. Grissom, White and Chaffee.

The people who died on their way or way back:

Challenger:

Columbia:

This is the one I remember IRL, sadly.

CommanderRick Husband
PilotWilliam C. McCool
Mission specialistMichael P. Anderson
Mission specialistKalpana Chawla
Mission specialistDavid M. Brown
Mission specialistLaurel Clark
Payload specialistIlan Ramon

Am I missing any men or women who gave their live to help us explore the unknown?

Modern day Galileo's or Columbus'...mankind who were willing to explore.

I don't know much about the Apollo guys but there was a gas leak or something a they burnt to death during a test on the launch pad. Fuck. Most painful of them all.

Challenger I expect many of you guys witnessed. They were launching a teacher for PR and is exploded going up right? I was a little too young to witness it.

Columbia I saw with my own eyes. Those fucking black tiles on the bottom of the shuttle. One broke off on reentry or something like that so the fucking ship wasn't properly shielded from heat on reenter approach and it brunt up. That was disturbing.

There's a thread for that

Christa McAuliffe was a local NH teacher; that was very devastating up here. There's quite the legacy to her here - lots of schools and things named after her.

I can only imagine, it was early or mid 80's right? I'm pretty sure I've seen news coverage of them showing the launch in like elementary schools then having to cut it off after it happened.

But then for me it's Columbia (which was very unpleasant) Then 9.11...which trumped it times a million and is my life's Pearl Harbor.

Imaging how there were many people alive then who lived through Pearl Harbor, Normandy, D Day, VJ DAY then Apollo and both shuttles exploding then 9.11.2001. I mean even if you weren't anywhere near any of them at the time, just living a life where all those MAJOR human species events occurred is kinda stunning. Also a testament to human perseverance.

Robert Adler, acting chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, said in a statement, "CPSC faces a massive challenge in ensuring that consumers are protected from potentially hazardous products sold on third‐party platforms. Many of the suppliers to these platforms are not domestic companies or companies with the financial ability to conduct recalls. The best solution to this problem would be for CPSC and third‐party platforms to work together to craft agreements that establish a framework for dealing with these products." Good luck with that!

Oh my god, my friend drove the truck for a few months, with less than 2 weeks of training. He said it was the worst experience of his life. Union busting in the bathrooms, crapping and pissing inside the truck, 180 deliveries a day. He did knock a brake light off the top of one truck, set it on top without any repair and didn't tell anybody. A bit of a get back. Now he works for UPS loading trucks all day.

UPS is a much better gig, they're unionized, treat their drivers much better and the pay is outstanding. I have considered Amazon for some AWS jobs, but I've heard they're not much better.

I had a couple of friends that worked for UPS back in the 90s. They pushed them pretty hard, but not ridiculously hard like the Zon is supposed to.

Don't you get to marry that chick who hates Scientology now if you drive for UPS?

On Twitter, Elizabeth Warren complained that Jeff Bezos "forgot to thank all the hardworking Americans who actually paid taxes to keep this country running while he and Amazon paid nothing."

Wooh!
