Charlene D'Angelo married in 1966 at age 16 and became Charlene Duncan. She signed with Motown in 1973 and released four singles – two as Charlene Duncan and two as Charlene – before I've Never Been To Me became a #3 hit in May 1982. She also recorded a single, John James Morgan, Welcome Home, as Charlene Brown in 1973 but it was never released. Charlene released six more singles including a duet with Stevie Wonder (Used To Be) and a Spanish-language version of I've Never Been To Me and released new music on streaming services in 2012-13 and 2021 but never had another top-40 hit.
Charlene's final Motown single, Hit & Run Lover, was released in September 1984. She pronounces "lover" as "luvvah" and "desire" as "desiah."
