My favorite song of 1988 – and there weren't very many I liked
Looking at my favorites list I used for the Scotch Sampler posts, I have this about 1988 -
The following albums came out in 1988:
- The Pixies - Surfer Rosa
- REM - Green
- U2 - Rattle and Hum
- Enya - Watermark
- Edie Brickell - Shooting Rubberbands...
- Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman
- Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking
- Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

So as an example, the Tracy Chapman album has Talkin' 'bout a Revolution and Fast Car. And on the U2 album, there's Angel of Harlem, When Love Comes to Town, God Part II, Desire, and All I Want is You. I'd take any of those over what's probably George Harrison's worst song cover.

But as we say, there's no accounting for personal taste. If it's good for you, then good for you.

Trying to come up with candidates for '88 (so many, and so many bad ones). I ended up with a list of songs I think are in this week's top 40. I'll be curious to see how many I'm right about after listening:

Aerosmith "Rag Doll"
Debbie Gibson "Foolish Beat"
George Michael "Monkey"
Gloria Estefan "1-2-3"
Hall & Oates "Everything Your Heart Desires"
INXS "Never Tear Us Apart"
Michael Jackson "Dirty Diana"
Michael Jackson "Man In The Mirror"
Prince "Alphabet St"
Rick Astley "Never Gonna Give"
Rick Astley "Together Forever"
Sting "We'll Be Together"
Terence Trent "Wishing Well"
Tiffany "I Saw Him Standing There"
Van Halen "When It's Love"
