My three candidates were the top 3 on the chart (but I missed #4 completely)

Here's the correct order:

Cutting Crew "I Just Died" #69
U2 "With Or Without You" #51
Kim Wilde "You Keep Me Hanging On" #30
Atlantic Starr "Always" #12
Lisa Lisa "Head To Toe" #4

Whitney "I Wanna Dance With" #1
Heart "Alone" #2
Bob Seger "Shakedown" #3

U2 "I Still Haven't" #17
Madonna "Who's That Girl" uncharted
Los Lobos "La Bamba" #60

Terence Trent Darby "Wishing Well" WRONG YEAR (May 1988)

white: listed as 'earlier' or 'later'
green: my candidates
brown: missing from my list

Good 11
Okay 2
Bad 27

Pretty polarizing countdown for me. Not a lot of gray area.

38: FLAMES OF PARADISE – JENNIFER RUSH & ELTON JOHN

Talk about a forgotten hit. Probably forgotten by the end of the month and outside of the VJ hasn't been mentioned since.

5: SONGBIRD – KENNY G

2: ALONE - HEART

I went with this. Not sure if I was 'alone' on it.

1: I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY (WHO LOVES ME) – WHITNEY HOUSTON

At least one of my competitors chose this (probably both). And Hectic chose it. So I lose. Tough competition 'round here!

#79 4 By Four "Want You For My Girlfriend"

No wiki page. Not much on the internet about them at all, really. From discogs.com: "Short lived R&B / new jack swing quartet from New York, who had a New Edition-like image."

#100 KTP "Certain Things Are Likely"

KTP stands for Kissing The Pink. Oh those cunning liguists! They look like members from Frankie, Depeche and ABC got together and said "Let's sound like every other new wave act out there right now, but act like Thomas Dolby in our video."

Will never see the top 40
#58 Gino Vannelli "Wild Horses"
#62 INXS "Good Times"
#63 Poison "I Want Action"
#64 Bruce Willis "Under The Boardwalk"
#65 Tom Kimmel "That's Freedom"
#66 Jody Watley "Still A Thrill"
#67 Nona Hendryx "Why Should I Cry?"
#68 John Waite "These Times Are Hard For Lovers"
#74 Cure "Why Can't I Be You"
#75 Lou Gramm "Ready Or Not"
#76 Carly Simon "Give Me All Night"
#78 Will To Power "Dreamin'"
#79 4 By Four "Want You For My Girlfriend"
#81 Kool & The Gang "Holiday"
#82 Aretha Franklin "Rock-A-Lott"
#83 Whitesnake "Still of the Night"
#85 Debbie Harry "In Love with Love"
#88 Jon Astley "Jane's Getting Serious"
#89 Cyndi Lauper "Boy Blue"
#90 Truth "Weapons Of Love"
#91 Laura Branigan "Shattered Glass"
#92 Night Ranger "Hearts Away"
#93 Journey "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever"
#95 Fabulous Thunderbirds "Stand Back"
#96 Dan Fogelberg "She Don't Look Back"
#97 REO Speedwagon "Variety Tonight"
#98 Prince "If I Was Your Girlfriend"
#100 KTP "Certain Things Are Likely"

I didn't remember either one of these tracks.

I agree. It's interesting because Jennifer Rush had so much more success outside of the US.
2: ALONE - HEART

I went with this. Not sure if I was 'alone' on it.
Prior to the show, I didn't know this was a remake:

#79 4 By Four "Want You For My Girlfriend"

No wiki page. Not much on the internet about them at all, really. From discogs.com: "Short lived R&B / new jack swing quartet from New York, who had a New Edition-like image."
The name of the group looked familiar, but didn't recognize the song. This position was their peak on the hot 100 and the song peaked at #8 on the R&B chart. They tried to work the Minneapolis sound into the record. The New Edition reference makes sense due to the lead singer having a high-pitched voice like Ralph Tresvant. They had another song hit the R&B chart called "Come Over" which peaked at #10 later that year. The single sounded like a Ready For the World track.

Someone wrote the following in a forum: Loved their song "Don't Put the Blame On Me" the remix. One of the singers has become born again. I remember him posting on Youtube comments that Capitol records did them dirty and dropped them quickly.

Will never see the top 40
#66 Jody Watley "Still A Thrill"
My surprise for the week.
#98 Prince "If I Was Your Girlfriend"
A personal fave. I mentioned this song to someone a few days ago.

Jennifer Rush had so much more success outside of the US.
Wow I guess so....

Rush's original version (of "The Power Of Love") reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in October 1985 and subsequently became the biggest-selling single of the year in the UK as Rush became the first female artist ever to have a million-selling single in the UK—it became the ninth best-selling single of the decade.

It topped several charts overseas. Here in the US it peaked at #57. There have to be a thousand songs that have hit #1 all over Europe but never made the top 40 here in the US. I seem to see it all the time. We were just talking about "Shaddup You Face" - same story.

Prior to the show, I didn't know this was a remake
I learned from the VJ that this was a cover too (a previous VJ from a year or two ago).

Not at my computer, so I don't have my full list, but I know my two candidates

Coming Up
It's Still Rock And Roll To Me
You have one of them for sure. Based upon the date, it will likely be the first one. If they go a full week ahead it will be the second.
