pre-1983 = countdown for my mother-in-law
i will say, there were a handful of great ones on here like j. geils, gary numan, pat benatar, billy joel and queen. but most of it was audio melatonin.
KEEP THE FIRE - KENNY LOGGINS
RIDE LIKE THE WIND - CHRISTOPHER CROSS
all i can think when i hear these is those 'yacht rock' episodes martha once talked about. they're great if you like backyard-quality, campy, offensive comedy bits. and fortunately i do!
THINK ABOUT ME - FLEETWOOD MAC
tusk is one disappointing friggin album. aside from this song, tusk and sara, it's a bizarre experimental cluster-f*** of intentionally odd songs. it's 'trying too hard to be kooky'. the only other track i like on it is 'what makes you think you're the one'. and i don't even like it a lot.
THE SECOND TIME AROUND - SHALAMAR
i always thought there were a one-hit wonder with dancing in the sheets, but i've just learned they've had 4 top 40s. i see now it's just because of my age. i was an ankle-biter for their previous hits. sheets was their last big one.
I CAN'T TELL YOU WHY - THE EAGLES
i thought
this article was brutal and an inappropriate way to 'give tribute' to the loss of a talented and successful musician. but this song is hard evidence that the writer has a point.
CALL ME - BLONDIE
one of the biggest songs of the 80s... and largely forgotten.
ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL - PINK FLOYD
great to hear while listening to the whole album, but on its own i really don't care for it. in fact, i feel that way about every song on 'the wall' except for 'run like hell'. on their own, these songs are kinda meh. as a complete package, it's an excellent album.
