80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

Good 11
Okay 5
Bad 24

33. The Afternoon Delights - General Hospi-tale

They shoulda just called the group "Blondie & The Soap-shine Band". Rapture + Get Down Tonight, but about GH. Terrible.

21. Rick James - Super Freak (Part I)

They play this song at the end of every VJ40 if you listen on demand. Was curious if they would still play it after #1 when they'd just done so. Yep. Lazy programming.

20. REO Speedwagon - In Your Letter

Most rock stars were out banging groupies. These guys were writing an album about their wives cheating on them while they're on tour.

17. Kenny Rogers - Share Your Love With Me

2. Christopher Cross - Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)

I picked this one

1. Diana Ross & Lionel Richie - Endless Love

The other two picked this one. As IRBS said above, I didn't take into account it held the top spot for 9 weeks.

This week's surprises .. sort of.
#48: too hard rock for top 40 so not really a surprise
#50: I thought this would have clipped the 40.
#88: Genuine surprise
#89: Canadian so not really a surprise,

#79 Billy & The Beaters "At This Moment"

I guess this is my huge surprise since it was all over the radio (and even TV) during the 80's. I imagine it did better on the AC charts.

Shocker.
Thanks for making sense of it Seasalt!
You're welcome! The first release peaked at #79. It looks like it was on the chart for three weeks.
Pretty much a surprise. I thought it would have been really close to 40.
"Tempted" peaked at #49 on 9/12/81 and stayed there for two weeks.

I would have thought of this one getting around 50.
"Magic Power" debuted this week. It peaked at #51 on 11/14/81.
