Comments:
  • I found the following information on Pendullum: "There is not a lot of information on this group but I've found that they were from Long Beach, California and were a trio. Two members were David Quintana and Paul Kenny. The group was signed to Venture Records and this single, written by Quintana, was issued. It seems Venture had some money problems and couldn't really promote the group. But it seemed to be enough to get this song on the chart. The group disbanded in 1982."
  • "Uptown" should have made the 100.
  • I'm surprised and saddened to see LaToya Jackson bubbling under.

Don't know any of those songs on the Bubbling Under
I knew "Uptown" and had stumbled upon ""If You Feel The Funk", but I didn't listen to it.
Surprised in a "she shoulda made the 100" or surprised in a "what the heck is she even doing bubbling under"?
The latter. Her singing is atrocious and she should have never been allowed near a studio. Her name helped her to at least bubble under. I did listen to the track and it's the type of forgettable song that anyone could have sang. The musicians and back ground singers did do a good job and there was decent guitar solo.
Knife Party has a few songs I dig. "You blocked me on Facebook and now you're going to die...."
LOOOOOOOOOOL!!!

(41) 40. INVISIBLE HANDS - KIM CARNES

I don't remember this at all, but I see it was one of those that peaked at #40 so I guess that explains it. Even so, I always forget how many hits she actually had, since you only hear 1 of 'em anymore.

(53) 38. READ 'EM AND WEEP - BARRY MANILOW

Didn't recognize this one at first, either. But watching it on YouTube, I realized I knew it. And I thought "Man, this is REALLY Meatloaf-y. ( Googles )

"Read 'Em and Weep" is a rock music song composed by Jim Steinman. Originally written for Meat Loaf and recorded for his 1981 album, Dead Ringer, the second of only two tracks on the album produced by Steinman and Jimmy Iovine, it did not become a hit until late 1983, when a slightly rewritten version was recorded by Barry Manilow as one of three new tracks on his compilation album, Greatest Hits, Vol. II."

Ah.

(36) 36. JUST GOT LUCKY - JOBOXERS

Now, THAT'S a one hit wonder.

(30) 32. MIRROR MAN - THE HUMAN LEAGUE

Great example of how the countdown points out every week how much regular radio sucks now. You NEVER hear this one anymore.

(33) 29. SOULS - RICK SPRINGFIELD

Had to YouTube this one, too. But I recognized it then. And man, this song's about as 1983 as it gets.

(25) 28. TENDER IS THE NIGHT - JACKSON BROWNE

One of the few songs of his I can tolerate.

This is a really good chart for me, overall. Not much on here that I flat-out hate.

Good 18
Okay 5
Bad 17

The top 5 this week are the same as last week's chart. Interesting.

40: INVISIBLE HANDS – KIM CARNES
39: TIME WILL REVEAL - DEBARGE
38: READ ‘EM AND WEEP – BARRY MANILOW

Rough start. Goes to show even my favorite year of pop can have some real stinkers, especially 39 and 38 - yikes!

34: THE SMILE HAS LEFT YOUR EYES - ASIA

Certainly not their best work.

20: MAKING LOVE OUT OF NOTHING AT ALL – AIR SUPPLY
12: TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART – BONNIE TYLER
6: LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD – PAT BENATAR

Watched both literal version music videos for these again a few weeks ago. Still crack me up every time.

19: TONIGHT I CELEBRATE MY LOVE – PEABO BRYSON AND ROBERTA FLACK

849ec66b71f5b46eaaf54fdc6fd56492.jpg

5: CUM ON FEEL THE NOIZE – QUIET RIOT

Hate it when they played the CHR edit (or whatever it is) of this song because it cuts out most of my favorite guitar solo of all time.

2: SAY SAY SAY – PAUL McCARTNEY AND MICHAEL JACKSON

My friend's kid guessed this one.

1: ALL NIGHT LONG (ALL NIGHT) – LIONEL RICHIE

My guess at #1. My friend's old roommate guessed this too.

Last week we all picked "Lady" as and it was #1, so a three way tie.

My friend's old roommate's guesses over the last 11 weeks: #1 #1 #1 #2 #1 #2 #2 #1 #1 #1 #1.
How the HELL am I supposed to compete with that?
Here's my last 11 weeks: #1 #1 #16 #2 #1 #16 #2 #17 #20 #1 #1.

Will never get into the top 40
#46 Paul Simon "Allergies"
#48 Pointer Sisters "I Need You"
#49 Jennifer Holliday "I Am Love"
#54 Commodores "Only You"
#61 Linda Ronstadt "What's New"
#65 Earth Wind & Fire "Magnetic"
#66 Moody Blues "Blue World"
#68 Rainbow "Street Of Dreams"
#69 Alan Parsons Project "You Don't Believe"
#71 Four Tops "I Just Can't Walk Away"
#72 Klique "Stop Doggin' Me Around"
#80 Alabama "Lady Down on Love"
#82 Saga "The Flyer"
#83 Eddie Money "The Big Crash"
#84 Men Without Hats "I Like"
#85 Talking Heads "This Must Be Place"
#86 Jennifer Warnes/Chris Thompson "All the Right Moves"
#87 Industry "State Of The Union"
#90 Midnight Star "Wet My Whistle"
#91 SOS Band "Tell Me If You Still Care"
#94 Joe Jackson "Memphis"
#96 SOS Band "Just Be Good To Me"

Comments:
• Anne Murray's "A Little Good News" is the first time I've seen a song enter the chart, bubble under, then re-enter the chart. What a ride!
• Duran Duran remade "White Lines" in 1995. I think this is the first time that I recall a band remaking a rap song.
