25. Not horrible.

One thing I did not know looking up Frank Stallone's IMDB. He was in 'Tombstone'.

I like probably 50-60% of the tunes on this one.

And count me in among those who wouldn't have guessed that Stallone tune got that high on the charts. I also don't think I knew that the Madness song cracked the Top 40.

Frank Stallone released seven singles between 1980 and 1986. Case Of You reached #67 on the Hot 100, Far From Over got to #10 and Darlin', which Stallone co-wrote and is not to be confused with the Beach Boys song with the same title, stalled at #91. If We Ever Get Back spent three weeks on the Bubbling Under chart, peaking at #105. Here is his fourth single, I'm Never Gonna Give You Up, a duet with Cynthia Rhodes released in December 1983. It failed to make the Hot 100 but reached #16 on the adult contemporary chart. It was produced by Johnny Mandel, who wrote the music for Emily, Close Enough For Love, The Shadow Of Your Smile and Suicide Is Painless (Theme From M*A*S*H).

Scaring myself again. The only #1 I missed for the whole year was "Baby Come To Me". And the order was really close.
ON THE HOT 100 THIS WEEK:
Named 14 of the top 20, but only named 22 of the top 100. Oh well. I think I'd be better at doing this with July or August '83.

Bad 13

NO BAD SONGS after #16. Great countdown.

36. SITTING AT THE WHEEL – THE MOODY BLUES
33. LADY LOVE ME (ONE MORE TIME) – GEORGE BENSON
32. DON’T YOU GET SO MAD – JEFFREY OSBORN
25. TELEFONE (LONG DISTANCE LOVE AFFAIR) – SHEENA EASTON
12. FAR FROM OVER – FRANK STALLONE
10. DON’T CRY - ASIA

Talk about your forgotten hits! I remember these from back then being pretty popular, but aside from channels/shows dedicated to 80s music I haven't heard them since '83. And I agree, that's a surprisingly high peak for Frank Stallone.

34. DON’T FORGET TO DANCE – THE KINKS

"Destroyer" (81), "Come Dancing" (82) and "Do It Again" (84) are so good! But this is so bad!

31. TONIGHT, I CELEBRATE MY LOVE – PEABO BRYSON AND ROBERTA FLACK

29. BIG LOG – ROBERT PLANT

This reminds me. I finally made a decision about ass-kodak vs cologuard. I went with cologuard.

4. MANIAC – MICHAEL SEMBELLO

Nina said the music director asked Sembello to 'slightly change' the words. Changing "And she's dancing like she never danced before" to "He will kill your cat and nail him to the door" is a small change??

1. TELL HER ABOUT IT – BILLY JOEL

I guessed right. So did my friend's old room mate. My friend's kid guessed "All Night Long" which came in at #43. It's very rare his kid picks a song outside the top 40, I'm shocked!

Will never reach the top 40

Eh, one slight surprise with Herbie Hancock's 'Rockit', considering it was all over the Grammy awards that year.

Many of this week's "Will never reach the top 40" found success on other charts:

#52 Donna Summer "Unconditional Love"
This one peaked at #43, tragically close to the 40! (#9 R&B, #14UK).

#59 SOS Band "Just Be Good To Me"
#2 R&B, #13UK. An early Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis production.

#60 Wham "Bad Boys"
Peaked at this position (#2 UK). I remember seeing this video on New York Hot Tracks.
#67 Midnight Star "Freak-A-Zoid"
#2 R&B.
#76 Herbie Hancock "Rockit"
Lack of radio airplay is the only reason I can think this didn't crack the 40.
#77 Eddy Grant "I Don't Wanna Dance"
#1 UK
#83 Eddie Rabbitt "You Put The Beat In My Heart"
#10 Country
#84 Crystal Gayle "Baby, What About You"
#1 Country
#98 Ronnie Milsap "Don't You Know How Much I Love You"
#1 Country
