Sherbert is NOT and NEVER WILL BE ice cream.
1986 was the beginning of the end of pop music for me. I shortly switched to rock radio and later alternative (in the 90s). Too many totally crappy songs played.

Good 7
Okay 6
Bad 27
30: HE’S A LIAR – THE BEE GEES
I don't remember ever hearing this one, even on previous VJ 40s. If I did I blocked it out. Lord this is terrible.
29: ALIEN – ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION
27: ATLANTA LADY – MARTY BALIN
Two more I don't ever remembering hearing.
6: PRIVATE EYES – DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES
@IdRatherBeSkiing This was one of my three potential guesses. It's the one my friend's son went with. A great guess, in my opinion. I've picked a song that wasn't even on the Hot 100 yet. I've also picked a #55. Anywhere in the top 10 is a great choice in my opinion.
2: ENDLESS LOVE – DIANA ROSS & LIONEL RICHIE
1: ARTHUR’S THEME (BEST THAT YOU CAN DO) – CHRISTOPHER CROSS
I remembered that last time we did 1981, this song was at #51 (I chose it as my tiebreaker because all three of us picked "Endless Love" that week), so I recycled it and picked this as my guess. Woohoo! My friend's former roommate also picked this one.
#61 Joey Scarbury "When She Dances"
The not-so-greatest American choice for a follow-up single.
#71 Cliff Richard "Wired for Sound"
This music video has more roller skating than the entire Xanadu film.
#97 ZZ Top "Leila"
Hard to believe this was their sound two years before Eliminator. Eww.
#100 Tight Fit "Back To The 60s"
Stars On 45's twin brother.
Won't make the top 40
#43 Devo "Working In The Coal Mine"
#49 Don Felder "Heavy Metal"
#55 Stars On 45 "More Stars"
#59 Streek "One More Night"
#60 Ronnie Laws "Stay Awake"
#61 Joey Scarbury "When She Dances"
#62 David Gates "Take Me Now"
#64 Rickie Lee Jones "A Lucky Guy"
#66 Johnny Lee "Bet Your Heart On Me"
#67 Triumph "Magic Power"
#69 John Schneider "Still"
#71 Cliff Richard "Wired for Sound"
#72 Carpenters "(Want You) Back in My Life Again"
#75 Savoy Brown "Run To Me"
#76 Alan Parsons Project "Snake Eyes"
#78 Pablo Cruise "Slip Away"
#80 Arlan Day "I Surrender"
#81 Aretha Franklin/George Benson "Love All The Hurt Away"
#83 Kim Carnes "Mistaken Identity"
#89 Tierra "La La Means I Love You"
#90 Prince "Controversy"
#97 ZZ Top "Leila"
#98 Dirt Band "Fire In The Sky"
#99 Slave "Snapshot"
#100 Tight Fit "Back To The 60s"

Surprised at all 3 of these. The Triumph one not so surprising because they are Canadian.

I picked out the same three songs.
I'm not surprised that Devo and Felder didn't break the top 40, but I would have thought Triumph would have been much closer.

This week's countdown isn't sounding too good. Late 90s sucked.

Good 10
Okay 10
Bad 20
How the hell did I find 10 good songs out of this pile of rubbish? The bad songs are realllly bad.
33. SUGAR DADDY - THOMPSON TWINS
They've been playing this terrible low-quality RealPlayer-esque version of the song for years now. Upgrade!
27. DON'T KNOW MUCH - LINDA RONSTADT FT. AARON NEVILLE
Wow very edited. Chopped the entire beginning off. Shortened the middle break. Did it actually go past the 2 minute mark? But then we have to suffer through what feels like a seven-minute Extended Remix of Dino's "It's No Crime"...
21. WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE - BILLY JOEL
My guess for #1 this week.
13. DIDN'T I BLOW YOUR MIND - NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
3. MISS YOU MUCH - JANET JACKSON
I almost picked this one. My friend's son did.
1. LISTEN TO YOUR HEART - ROXETTE
I almost picked this one too. My friend's roomate did. So I got last place. But frankly, I'm just glad to be in the top 40.
#95 Melissa Etheridge "No Souvenirs"
Love this song, always have.
Will never reach the top 40
#41 Soulsister "The Way to Your Heart"

I liked Alarm’s Sold Me Down the River. Looks like it was me and a few others.
The bottom 40 this week looks as bad as the top 40.

I decided to count -- there are 9 songs on this countdown which would not make me change the channel. Of those, I probably like about 4 of them.

40. DON'T ASK ME WHY - EURYTHMICS
Can’t say I’ve ever heard this song before, and I consider myself a pretty big Eurythmics/Annie Lennox fan. Maybe an Apple Music search is in order.
36. HEAVEN - WARRANT
One of those bands I would break my finger changing the station when their songs came on.
31. GIRL I'M GONNA MISS YOU - MILLI VANILLI
BLAME IT ON THE RAIN - MILLI VANILLI
Girl you know it’s....Girl you know it’s...Girl you know it’s...Girl you know it’s....
29. ME SO HORNY - 2 LIVE CREW
I consider myself a fan of the old-school rap from this era. HATE this song, did then, do now, just as much. Although Ironically enough, Luther Campbell the head of 2 Live Crew is now a high-school football coach in Miami who teaches his kids not to cuss. Go figure!
21. WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE - BILLY JOEL
Not his best, but not his worst either. Although if you were in junior high-high school that year, this was your history lesson.
10. LOVE SHACK - THE B-52'S
A decent enough song that got played all to hell by radio back in the day, and is now staple of Classic Rock (one of the many reasons I stick to Apple Music nowadays).
#95 Melissa Etheridge "No Souvenirs"
One of those songs that got me into Melissa Etheridge in the first place. Not surprised it didn’t make the top 40, SHOCKED it placed this low.
