6 Brands That Might Not Make It Through 2015?

It seems goofy to me. I have a hard time picturing how they will be able to get market share back when they couldn't hold on to it before.

It's just a brand name on a web page. Like "Polaroid", the company is gone. The name was sold to pay off some creditors.

I never liked Circuit City, especially after the DIVX fiasco.

I partially liked Circuit City, but when Best Buy became bigger and had better stuff. I jump ship, but now I hardly ever shop at Best Buy.

Another company, that went under nearly 20 years ago is Service Merchandise. But the website is still around selling stuff.

Huh? Polaroid made a product. Circuit City just sells products. I don't understand the analogy. And they'd have physical stores, not just a website.
Not an analogy. Polaroid and Circuit City were corporations that went out of business. The names were sold to licensing companies to be slapped on anything they want for nostalgia purposes.

My first computer was a hand-me-down that someone gave me. It was an old Trash-80 with a cassette drive. You could do next to nothing with it. That was probably around 1982 or something. I got really bored with it pretty quickly. No idea what happened to it. I Bought an Atari 1040STE around 1988 to run midi/music software. It really was the shiz for music production back in the day. A friend built me my first PC around 93.

I got fed up with Circuit City when they fired all their experienced salespeople who knew what they were doing and replaced them with low-paid kids most of whom had no idea about what they were selling. After the real CC folded there were a few stores that were opened under the CC name for a while, I went into one of them and was extremely uncomfortable with the sales people following me around the store and asking repeatedly if the could help me every time I started to look at anything.

I worked at Service Merchandise for a couple of years out of high school, in part, selling electronics.
They constantly grilled us about talking to the customers and not leaving them alone for very long.
I was pretty good with stereos and cameras, but felt bad for the customers that asked me about fax machines and some of the other stuff.

You're the type of employees, I can't stand. I just want to walk around and look and when I am ready, I will ask for an employee. I can't stand vultures (employees) following me and keep asking me "Oh you got any questions?" No, I'm just looking and I'll call you over whenever I need you. I know it there jobs, but I prefer not be harassed.

We would have preferred to not bug people too. I would have liked to have just said "Hi, looking for anything in particular? Thanks, let me know if you need help with anything."

Management had reason to believe that sales improved the more you talked to them. (See how that worked out for Service Merchandise?)

The only part of it that made sense to me, was from a loss prevention point of view. If people know that you're paying attention to them, they are much less likely to steal anything.

I see your point of view, maybe it's a pet peeve of mine. But I don't like being followed and I can understand being watched. But I'm not going to be stupid and steal something.

IMO, this is what's killing brick & mortar stores. Sometimes I want to see stuff in person before buying, but salespeople drive me to buy online.

The rub of it is that when you want to ask some questions, you want them there, but when you just want to browse, you want them to go away. The balance important.

They always say, "if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask", or something like that. As if I hadn't already figured that out.
