Usually when you buy a new car that has a Sirius radio in it, it only comes with a year sub on it.... I have never heard of one coming with anything longer.

A buddy just bought a new car and it only had 90 days free (or something like that.) It's already expired, and I tease him about getting it turned back on. He really misses it already.

Some Ford models now offer a 3 year sub...but as others have said, most are 90 days...there are some 1 year offers here and there too.

If the previous owner had subscribed to the service, chances are, they either canceled it or changed it to their next car once they sold it to you.

Have you tried to listen to the service? It might still be on. Sometimes the cancellation signal doesn't make it to the radio in a timely fashion

If you want to subscribe, you're gonna have to call and open an account in your name. Let them know you're a new subscriber and they may give you a discount :)

If you bought a Mercedez or some really expensive car, it may have lifetime. One of the German luxury models announced Siriius lifetime OEM plans. If not, its either 90 days, 1 or 2 or 3 years. Check with your dealer or call Sirius XM.

Sounds like you got a car that may have an aftermarket radio in it? Either way, you should be able to tune the radio to channel 0 (or 000) and that will display the SID number. The SID number is what's used to subscribe to the satellite service. You can write this number down and call Sirius to see if it's still under a subscription. Also, semipenguin is probably right. Even if the previous owner has un-subscribed that radio it may not have gotten the deactivation signal yet.
