First US moon landing mission in decades launches with NASA science, humans remains on board

Also on board the rocket was another payload from the space burial company Celestis. Dubbed the Enterprise Flight, it contains 265 capsules with human remains as well as DNA samples from former US presidents John F. Kennedy, George Washington and Dwight Eisenhower.

The remains also include “the creator and several cast members of the original Star Trek television series, as well as an Apollo-era astronaut, together with people from all walks of life, interests, and vocations”.

The Enterprise Flight payload is headed for deep space where it will spend eternity orbiting the sun.

During the past few days, there's been all this hoopla about some weather condition that is making the Northern Lights visible much further south than usual. But it wasn't until last night, when I started seeing people in my area - and in my town - posting pictures, that made me go outside to take a look.

At first, it just looks dark out. But if you get away from house and street lights, you can see a bit of a reddish or purplish tone to the dark. And as others said, you just have to let your camera take care of it. My phone camera went into night mode, and did like a 5 second exposure, and this is what I got

That's the top of my house at the bottom of the 1st picture. I'm not sure how accurate the 2nd one was, but it only looked like that when I faced north. Now all I see on my Facebook feed is everyone's pictures of the Northern Lights.

We had clouds and I have never seen them inside Toronto. Too much light. Coming from SK I saw them pretty regularly and they are magnificent.

Nice pix!

I was pretty pissed off last night.
The friggin weathermen said that it would mostly be able to be seen just over the line in Michigan, but would be cloudy.
During the 11:00 news, they were going crazy about how vibrant the display was even south of Toledo. So I went outside and there were several neighbors out. They said they could see it a bit earlier. The skies were clear, so we hopped in the car at about 11:30 and drove a bit over the state line to a park along Lake Erie with a good northern view. There were a decent number of people out, but no northern lights. It turns out that the best viewing as at about 10 pm.

We'll try again tonight is we can. I saw them a bit as a kid on a scout camp-out, but didn't really get how special it was to see them in this part of the country, so I didn't pay as much attention as I should have. I've been wanting to see them again for decades.

In my mind, Ohio and New England were getting Northern Lights events every couple of years, sounds like no.

Some people around here reported seeing them last night, which surprised me. It’s only happened once to my memory back in the 80’s where one of these events happened. And it probably wasn’t much, just a glimpse. I’ll try and look at the sky tonight.

There are certain points in northern New England where it's almost an annual thing. But it tends to be where nobody lives.

A big solar flare is responsible for what's happening now. And they say even Florida could see something, so maybe by you too.

After they said that the intensity last night was going to be strong enough to see even farther south and peak time would be between 10;45 and 12:45 I thought that I had it. Pretty much everyone was complaining that there was nothing to be seen.

Now they are saying that it's happening again tonight, but nobody will be able to see it.
So it will probably be an epic display.

You are trusting people that can't tell you definitively that tomorrow will be sunny or rainy to predict space phenomenon?

I know it's kind of a standard running joke that meteorologists don't make accurate forecasts, but our weather anchors here in Maine are very good, and I'd say they're accurate 95% of the time.
