And around 1,500 of those MLB players appeared in only one game. I'd love to know how many failed to get a hit and ended their major-league career with a batting average of .000.

The Dodgers are headed to the World Series after sweeping the Brewers in the National League championship series. Tonight they beat the Brewers 5-1. Shohei Ohtani pitched the first six innings and got the win. He gave up no runs and struck out 10. He also hit three home runs – three! – including a leadoff home run. He is the only pitcher in MLB history to hit a leadoff home run in a game.

Could be one of the greatest individual games ever played. Three home runs combined with that pitching performance.

In 1962, the year Dodger Stadium opened, concession stand manager Thomas Arthur wanted a signature food item like the foot-long hot dogs of Coney Island. He introduced the Dodger Dog. The weiners were made by Farmer John and were grilled, not boiled. Since 2021, Dodger Dog weiners have been made by family-owned sausage and meat company Papa Cantella's – and they are boiled and then grilled. Longtime fans and Dodger Dog eaters can tell the difference.

From the English, Spanish and Japanese broadcasts of game 4, here are all the calls of Ohtani's three home runs. I was amused by Pepe Yñiguez shouting "SAYONARA!" three times – with a Spanish accent.

Eugenio Suárez hit a grand slam in the 8th inning of ALCS game 4 tonight to break a 2-2 tie. The Mariners beat the Blue Jays 6-2. And here is some amazing (and pretty much useless) trivia: Suárez is the 7th MLB player to hit a go-ahead grand slam in the 8th inning (or later) of a playoff game.

Game 6 is October 19 in Toronto. When a playoff series is tied 2-2, 69% of the series are won by the game 5 winner.

Other useless stats: the game 3 winner (regardless of other games) wins the best of 7 series 73% of the time.

The Jays won tonight forcing a game 7 tomorrow in Toronto.

There is nothing like "Game 7" to strike terror into the hearts of Toronto sports fans. I believe that before 1967 the Leafs did win a 7 game series and the 2019 Toronto Raptors beat Philadelphia in 7. Aside from these, game 7s in hockey and baseball have been an unmitigated disaster. Here's hoping tomorrow is different.

(The 2015 Jays did win a sudden death game 5 in the ALDS).

Happy for the Blue Jays.
Mariners never made it before so that would have been cool to see also, but it’s been since the 1990s for Toronto, so they’re due. Please beat the Dodgers.
I feel bad for Seattle. They were/are a damn good team. They would have had their hands full against the Dodgers mainly because they would not have had home field. They Jays will have their hands full too but I think the Jays can win.

From Wiki:
The Seattle Mariners are still the only MLB franchise that has never appeared in a World Series; the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, and Colorado Rockies have all played in the Series but have never won it, with the Padres and the Rays appearing twice.

I’m also happy for Don Mattingly! All those years in baseball and this will be his first World Series (as a coach on Blue Jays staff)

I think his first year as a player or a coach. When he was a Yankee the Yankees never were much.

I was rooting for the M's, but now I hope the Jays can make a run at this thing. I'm not anti-Dodgers really, but it's always more fun to root for the underdog/new blood. And I won't be able to watch much of the Series anyway, due to my work schedule ( I was able to stay up for last night's game because I'm on vacation ).

Another headline I saw which was a take off on the Ohtani free agency when reports had him flying to Toronto (likely a diversion likely trying to wrangle a few extra $ from the Dodgers): "Ohtani now really flying to Toronto".
