Hi guys,

My first post on here, so bear with me.

So I recently installed the sportster 5 kit in my jetta. I am using it through 88.1fm. I have noticed that I get signifant feedback while driving around and it doesn't sound all that good. I have the antenna mounted on the trunk. Can you guys reccomend anything to improve the feedbck it's not very clear.

Should I purchase the direct fm modulator kit? I have a stock headunit in my 2001 Volkwagen Jetta.

Will this improve the sound, the cracking and static? I also have been picking up other peoples stations.. how can I avoid this? Would the cassette adapter help?

Thanks audio noob here:p!!

Your static problems come from the FM stations, not the satellite signal. I would really suggest hard-wiring this to your Jetta's stereo. There are several different options for this.

1. For the best quality sound I would suggest going with an auxiliary input adapter. This will not require any syncing of FM stations at all and will be CD quality. For your 2001 Jetta, it's important to know if you have an external CD changer in the trunk. If you do not I would suggest this: Volkswagen XM5-VWR. It will also power the unit as well so you don't have to use a cigarette lighter adapter.

2. A cassette tape adapter, Like the one shown here: Sony CPA-9C Cassette Adapter, will improve your sound and still leave you free from FM syncing, but isn't the best quality sound.

3. The last option I would suggest id going with an FM modulator. This will eliminate most of your static problems but isn't the best quality sound. For your 2001 Jetta you will need an additional adapter for the modulator to work. Here are the parts you need:

FM Direct Adapter (Wired Relay)
Mercedes FM Antenna Adapters

I hope this information helps. If you have any other question please feel free to ask or call us.

Matt,

That was very helpfull, thanks. I went to Best Buy before I read this post and picked up an FM modulator. Am I able to get that second part locally? Would a car stereo shop have that?

Hopefully this will solve my issues with hearing other people's stations, static, etc. Thanks so much! If this doesn't sound well I will go with option #1. Matt I DO have the 6 disc changer in the trunk..

You may be able to find that other part locally but I think you would have better luck with an installation shop instead of a best buy. A phone call or two may help narrow it down. If you can't find it you can just get it through us.

The best sound quality with being able to keep your external cd changer would be this package: X3 Audi Auxiliary Input Package 1. It doesn't power the unit like the XM5-VWR would, but it if eliminating the cigarette lighter adapter is what you want to do we also have the vehicle power hardwire kit show here: SIRIUS Vehicle Power Hardwire Kit

I hope this additional info helps.

Matt,

If I ditch the fm modulator, can I just use this:Volkswagen XM5-VWR

I do not care about the CD changer.. I cant stand how it sounds now, its not loud and crisp like sat. should be! Also, do you have install instructions for that?

Yes, if you ditch the FM modulator and the CD changer you can use the XM5-VWR.
