I find it kind of redundent with Faction, since they play almost the exact same bands... Plus, I could never listen for more than 5 minutes so...

I turn the channel to Octane this morning, and the first song I hear is a hard rockin' cover of "Careless Whisper" by Wham?!? :wtf:

Are modern bands finding it that hard to create new songs?

That's ok. A few years ago someone did a cover of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal :right:

:)

Octane does have its ups and downs.

I love the uncensored rock, the fact that they play the latest and greatest in rock and the fact that it's the hardest rock on Sirius, next to Liquid Metal, of course.

Sadly, like most other rock stations, they do play their fair share of shit, ie Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life". However, they allow their listeners to express their concerns about their music though their rock advisory panel (which I happen to be a part of).

Not exactly. Some bands, but Faction is more emo and punk friendly.

Huge hit for the band. Top five in the national rock charts.

I listened briefly tonight. It is not my type of music. :bigahh:

2 of 5 stars.
+1

I just can't get into it. I'm more XMU/Alt Nation for my new rock. For some reason, I feel that I too old to be listening to this channel (I'm thirty). No disrespect to those that like Octane. Two stars.

I love this channel. I record it early in the mornings and listen to is at work after listening to BTLS. There are some songs I don't like but I forward though. I really love it. Much more than faction.

"Mainstream" rock is still pretty dead unfortunately as it has been for about a year now (which is why bands like Seether end up having hits like their Careless Whisper cover), but if you like modern rock music that isn't heavy metal, Octane is your station. I listened to Octane almost exclusively for the first 2 years I had Sirius...when Lithium came along I started splitting time between the two...and then when 90s on 9 came around, the time split even further. I'm actually on a Liquid Metal kick right now, but Octane is still a good fall back station. I just hope some of the newer bands start bringing out better music that isn't too pop friendly. There are just too many bands right now like Hinder that can easily cross over to a pop/AC station by taking away guitars and adding in violins...

I fill out the Octane Air Force survey every time I get one. I'm not exactly sure how much it actually changes the playlist since a lot of the songs on the survey are on there every time.

I'm not a huge fan of the XM transplanted DJ's, but I still enjoy listening to Kayla and Covino (met him several times and listen to his other show on 108).

Octane = meh.

I used to have this station as a preset, but I noticed I never tuned into it. I gave it another listen this week. I too noticed they play a bunch of covered songs. Overall, I none of the music I was hearing was anything noteworthy in my book. It worked okay as background noise, and if it was was the only terrestrial station my radio would pick up, I would listen. But as it's satrad with a bunch of stations, it's not even one of my presets. 3 stars.

This channel would have been perfect for me back in 1988. I just can't get into this music these days :worried:

I do think this channel is run quite well. I listened a couple of times this week. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Kayla is, of course, Amazing. The other guy I heard also did a great job, but for some reason, I can't remember his name

Nothing against the music. It's nice to review this channel once a year or so :)

4 out of 5 Stars :D

I'm not really a modern rock dude either. If I'm rockin', I'd prefer Boneyard for some older stuff. Doesn't seem like a bad channel though, just not for me.

Octane has been a preset on all my radios since '03. I like the channel when I am in the mood for for some hard rock. My definition of hard rock.

For what it is worth both my kids, 20 and 25, love this channel and is on their presets too.

This channel was my first love when I got Sirius in '05. Still number 1 on my presets on any radio I get. Back then, I found it awesome to find a station that plays my type of Rock (I live in northern wisconsin, and the only rock stations are horrible) so it was exciting to hear them play my favorite bands, and uncensored. I've had a lot of issues with octane over the years, and was a big part of emailing/calling the various PD's and DJ's that worked for it, voicing my concern. There was a rough patch where I could not listen to it because of repeats and bad bands. But, overall, I love it. And lately, I am back to listening all night. The XM jocks added to the lineup are great, and the Squizz influence is also good.

Love Octane!

Faction also plays Hip-Hop and punk.

This was one of the first music channels I associated with on Sirius. I've since moved on to other channels, but i'll tune back in every once in a while. Their morning guy from 2005 reminded me of a guy on a local FM station. The Octane guy left Sirius for a country station.

2001, Alien Ant Farm:

They played it at the 2009 Vans Warped Tour and also posted mentions of Michael Jackson on their site.
