Win 7 Question

I have a question for any of you Windows 7 experts.

I have Win 7 Pro on my Mac through VMware Fusion. It is a legit copy.

Here's my issue:

It has asked for a password to log on after it starts up. I make a password. Then I go to the CP, then accounts, and remove the password for my account (I am the Admin and only one in the accounts section).

This works for a while. I shut down as normal. I start up as normal without any password needed. Then after a while it asks for the password again. Then I have to log in with a new password and then remove it again as I did earlier.

How do I stop this from happening?
 
Your VM shouldn't have anything to do with what Windows is doing with respect to the actual OS level, especially for that 1 specific thing. (Short of some file corruptions, but then I would expect you to be having a lot more issues than just that. However, VM's can be funky - so make sure you have things updated. )

I'm no Win 7 expert, but it sounds to me that maybe there is some kind of grace period playing into things here? In other words, you remove the pass, and that resets some internal timer in Windows where is says "OK, unless such-and-such other option is disabled, removing this password here will only take effect for X number of days". So perhaps for the password removal you are doing, you also have to set/unset some other option in Windows as well?

control panel > user accounts > User Account Control

SHUT THIS OFF!!!!

Also when you setup the user make sure you check PASS NEVER EXPIRES
 
Is the machine part of a domain with a user policy? Probably not, but I've seen that override settings.

voliconjoe is probably on to something with the "password never expires" box. You would think that checkbox would be dependent on actually having a password, but it's not.
 
Please don't turn off user account control! It is your first line of defense against internet baddies! It was a pain in vista but its not bad at all in 7.

Dunno about your password problem. I run both ways and it never changes on me. You sure your VM isn't rolling back to an earlier snapshot or anything?

UAC is the patriot act of Win 7. It irritates the user and does little else. You get viruses from clicking on sketcky web links. The end.

No one is interested in your family photos.

UAC lets you know when the payload in that virus tries to do something, and lets you stop it before it does. That's incredibly useful.
