I'm going on vacation to Hawaii and have a few questions. Will I get reception on my Stiletto 100...

1. On the plane?

2. In Hawaii?

I have heard fairy tales of people getting reception on a plane with the antenna headphones and sitting next to a window but I haven't done it myself so I am not sure. Also, I am not sure how the FAA looks at satellite radio devices. If I were you I would just record some of your favorite radio content and roll with it on the plane.

As for Hawaii I have heard a few complaints that it is difficult to get a signal there. I would find out if the hotel you are staying at has wifi and hook it up that way. That will probably be your best bet.

Once you get over the pacific you will be outside the Sirius sat footprint even if you were by the proper window.

Sirius was going to put repeaters in Hawaii but I think that is still caught up in the FCC waiting for the NAB to approve.

I've done it, works. I kept the antenna phones against my arm pressed up to the window and used ear bud type phones to listen

It works sometimes. It depends on whether you've got a clear view to the satellite through the window on your side of the plane.

Also be aware that radios (transmitters and receivers) are not approved for use in flight. Of course listening to recorded content on a Stiletto is OK.
