Where are the black artists on the 80s channel?

Anyone else notice that apart from Prince, there are very few black artists featured on the 80s channel? And that most songs played on the channel can also be heard on either Classic Rewind or 1st Wave? I think we need to start sending Sirius XM feedback about this lame channel- they need to fatten the playlist NOW! The Groove is about the only place to hear any 80s soul/R&B.

Who exactly would be the best person to contact about the 80s on 8 playlist, or lack thereof. I plan to tell them that I really like 80s music, I like the old MTV Vjs, and I like the music that they play, but that I wish they would get more adventurous as far as what they play on the channel goes, because I am hearing too many repeats and there are a lot of great 80s songs and artists that are not heard on the channel. I like about every song they play, but I don't want to hear the same ones over and over. If enopugh people said something to this effect to the right person at Sirius XM, is their any chance we could actually exact any changes? I think so, because we got Backspin and The Strobe back on the air. Of course, you could also try alerting them to the fact that there is something out there called Slacker that is growing bigger every day and could put them all on the unemployment line...but I don't really want to go that route with them. I think staying as positive as possible yet being firm about what you want is the best policy.

I will try my best to try to help you, this is what I do....

On the HOME page go to the Sirius Logo - when a new page come up go to where it say's SEARCH type in "CUSTOMER CARE" -

When the new page comes on go down and "CUSTOMER CARE" will be there click on.

Fill info out - when you get "PICK A CATAGORY" click drop down to "MUSIC PROGRAMMING"

Now you will give all the info they need and just tell them every thing you feel - don't leave anything out............

I really hope I helped you because I totally know how you feel - I'm not happy with my choice of the music they said we would be getting back !!

I wish you "Good Luck"

There responses to questions of any criticism on the 80s channel is a total non-response! For months I wrote about not updating the site and they said nothing. It sucks that the 80s channel is sort of left to the Sirius dog(s) and it is treated so badly. For example, their only specaility programming besides Martha Quinn (which is on at 8AM the first airing?) is the Casey Kasem countdown. It's good but one week they totally screwed up the tape or something and for the past two weeks, they've been playing the same exact yearly countdown (the year in review 1983). Good luck indeed!

They LOVE 1983! It seems like half of the songs they play are from that year. I hope that someone from Sirius XM is reading this thread.

They aren't. Tell them what you dislike (or like) about the playlist. As simple as it sounds to say "Can you be more diverse" or "Stop being "Classic Rewind 2", I think you have to be much more suggestive by naming artists and songs that should be played. For example, what black artists should be played?

I would heavily suggest pop/R&B acts like:

The Jets
Donna Summer
Shalamar (which does get played)
Jody Watley
Jermaine Stewart
Vanity 6,Apollonia 6,The Time
Babyface
Pebbles

Also, while Prince gets played, it is rare that you'll hear anything post "Raspberry Beret" (or anything pre-"1999"). Tone Loc was great....you don't have to play his two hits in order to show that you play black artists, though!

I have been saying for quite sometime that there is a lack of R&B on Sirius 8. Sure they play an R&B song every now and then, but for the most part, it's Aerosmith, The Cars, or John Mellencamp...:worried:

It would seem to me that they try to stay very middle of the road (pop) with the decades channels...maybe Hot 100 hits, with the occasional "lost hit". Just the nature of the beast.

Maybe they could do some specialty programming (1 hour/week) where they do some R&B or rock and let you know where else to tune on Sirius for more R&B or rock.

When they first merged, they were playing the Deep Playlists from XM on there. Today I just turned on the 80's channel and Hear the same repetitive Garbage they played on The Big 80's on Sirius. If I wanted to listen to 80's Rock I would listen to Classic Rewind. I Wrote to Sirius customer service today Adressing these issues. I told them they have way too much overlapping from classic rewind, and to go back to playing all songs from the 80's. I've gotten good response from them recently, so we will see what happens.

That's a similar lineup to....Classic Rewind!

I had it record for about 2 hours and it was almost exclusively white male rock artists...it's what Sirius knows and it shouldn't be changed! Keep letting them know it's getting stale!

This has been my biggest issue with Sirius. The first week after the merger it was better than now it seems they have gone back to the Sirius "all white all the time" mentality of Big 80's.
