I am primarily looking for something that I can go on walks with in a suburban neighborhood and get live reception.

Is this possible and what unit works best?

If you live near a repeater, this is very possible with any portable. But right now on the Sirius Side, all you have is the stiletto line. the SL2 is the newest one and there are deals going on and they are getting cheaper, also the wifi is a nice plus.

If you are going XM, the XMP3 is a nice small portable and would work well within repeater range. No Wifi though.

Grupsaar is right. The stiletto 2 or XMP3 would be a great portable device to use. Even if there isn't a ground repeater near you I think you shouldn't have a problem getting a signal. Here are a couple of links to the products:

SIRIUS Stiletto 2 Live Portable Receiver SL2PK1
XMp3 XM Receiver and MP3 Player

We also have many of the components available for these models. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call us. 773-772-4340

What Matt said. I have both the XMP3 and the S2. Both have worked for me in Portland, OR, San Francisco, Houston and Washington DC.
