So, I havent heard much of today's show yet (recording flubbed up, my room mate knocked the antennea off the porch so there was no reception...)but I checked out the show's new twitter page. The first days updates seemed rather dull, just what is going on at the moment, but still interesting.

But after the show, it seems someone else was updating the twitter. I'm not sure if it's Howard, but it seems like it. I think he should have a seperate twitter for personal stuff, and one for show related stuff. But if it is Howard, it's funny. I see it was updated via 'twitterberry' the blackverry app for twitter. The last two updates are
"I have been trying to get this thing to work for hours. I already hate it."
"I'm just staring at the back of Ronnie's head."
and "@Minnieola well it turns out he only colors that beard."

Anyways, interesting, I will be following it. I am already 'following' the page itself. What are your thoughts on the Twitter page? Jumping in too late on the twitter phenom? And O&A fans wanna speak up and say how Howard stole this idea from Opie? Haha. Anyways, obviously this is part of Sirius's push to get Howard promoting the show more as tim was talking about ways to promote earlier this week. Maybe more publicity is on the way?

Tim S thinks twitter will be such a huge marketing tool. The idiot fails to realize the people that will follow the Stern twitter page already have Sirius.

I personallly think It's kind of cool Howard is responding to people directly on twitter. It shows he is addicited to the crackberry like he said he was, and its fun to see him actually reaching out a tiny bit aside from the doing the show. I don't know, maybe I am just a twitter junkie.

I think it's cool too, but if people start being dicks I can see him getting sick of it like he did with his forum.

As if there weren't already signs the twitter thing has got to be a huge indicator the the show has jumped the shark.:yesshake:

Aren't O&A on Twitter as well? I guess that means they've jumped.

Oh well, maybe since they're just doing XM these days, maybe they'll go out on the road to drum up some publicity.

Yeah. You can't tell the fans to go to Twitter. You have to go to the non-fans like Howard did a few years ago with the late night hosts.

If anything, Howard on the late night shows is free publicity. It doesn't cost anything, and it may get a few new fans to the service. And it doesn't even matter what they listen to. Someone who subscribes just for NFL is exactly the same as someone who subscribes just for the music.

Yes, I believe that's where they announced their firing from terrestrial radio. Great use of technology. As far as them "jumping", you have to achieve actual popularity (and quality) before you can be accused of jumping the shark.

Yes I will say they have jumped. This gay radio war think you are trying to draw me into will not happen.

I thought the same thing. You have to realize that Spin Sabian also came up with the best of the best of the week on fridays.

He can't win on Fridays.

They tried Friday Show, but people were bitching because it wasn't the real show.
They tried MTT, but people were bitching because of whatever reason (taped?)
They're doing Best of the Week, but people are bitching because it's the same stuff they've been doing all week long, in addition to the weekend. Their logic is that some people only want the "meat" of the show.

My suggestion? Keep 101 as it is. They've got a good thing there.

100
6 AM - MTT

After MTT ends, then run a sort of "Friday Show, MTT Wrap-Up" hybrid. Fans can call in and talk about the previous week OR MTT. Run the various segments like "Best of Fred" and whatever else Friday Show had. Take that until 1 or 2 or so, or whenever the hosts feel finished.

After that ends, then run Best of the Week until 6 PM or so.

At 6 PM, re-air the entire 12-hour block.

Re-air the same MTT on Sunday at 3 PM.

This way, there's three different shows on 100, a few different shows on 101, and everyone should win.

If it was up to me, i'd do a "first segment" special. There's usually some good stuff from 6 AM until that first break, and even the Lisa G segment when they're just bullshitting about whatever's going on.

It's that screwed up mentality Sirius XM has of marketing to their subscribers. So many promotions about getting more radios, etc. Why not try and get new listeners?

How many cars are out there that have sat rad and aren't subscirbers? Seems like a good target right there.

I don't know, I think that the twitter page is good whether its reaching to current subs or getting new ones. I do think twitter can get new people interested in the show. If something exclusive or interesting gets posted to the twitter, it draws attention just like any other persons twitter page, and it spreads word of mouth, and gets new people or stern fans who don't listen anymore to check it out. It's all about internet viral type stuff, and the Stern show needs to step up and do this sort of social stuff more often.

So true so true. Sometimes I think he is stuck in his old fashioned radio days.

People hated the Friday Show because they were pissed Howard took Fridays off. I don't want to rehash that, but a lot of people were pissed even though it was talked about way before he got to Sirius. You could have put anything in there at that time and people would have hated it. I still think people are pissed because of that.

I hear ya. They really need someone to come in and take over their marketing strategy. I get some people like Twitter, but to me its just kinda gay. It's basically just like facebook and we know how Howard hated that.
