My Top 5:

5. 70s

4. 90s

3. 80s

2. 00s

1. 60s

I can't decide whether the 90s and 00s should switch, because the 90s rock had a lot of Nirvana wannabes, but they had a lot of revolutionary alt rock, which the 00s continued. The 60s of course wins because it had the Beatles, the Doors, and so on...

So choose away!:buttrock:

1. '60s - Hendrix, Beatles, amazing amounts of musical creativity

2. '80s - my personal favorite decade of music. The soundtrack of my youth.

3. '70s - Zeppelin + Lots of good music as well as lots of crap... :)

4. '50s - Where it all began. Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino

5. '90s

I don't know enough 2000's music to really comment.

1. The 70's - Because it was a varied decade, you had bands like the Eagles and Poco (Country-Rock), The Ramones and The Sex Pistols (Punk), Boston and Aerosmith (What we know now as Classic Rock) which are staples of listening even today. Then you had the artists like Jim Croce, Elton John (the 70's when he was at this PRIME!), Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Carole King, and way more where that came from.

2. The 60's. - I think the decade pretty much speaks for itself.

3. The 80's - The decade that takes a lot of crap for 'hair metal' but it was also the beginning of what we know now as Alternative Music. Which paved the way for....

4. The 90's - Grunge, the evolution of Alternative music to include styles like Rap and others.

5. The 2000's - Some good bands around if you look hard enough, but as far as what gets played on the radio nowadays, it's a real downer.

The Sixties was the best decade, even with a three year deficit to start things off.

The Seventies come in second only because the Sixties kicked ass.

The Nineties follow up as a distant third. The filler outweighed what was original and cool.

The Fifties make mention because that's when rock and blues was at its simplest and most pure.

The Eighties were the worst by far. Not too many artists from before it got through the decade unscathed. You know a decade is going to suck when a Beatle is shot dead in its first year. Fluff, drum machines...DeBarge...Taco...the Eighties can go eff itself.

1. 70s -- classic rock exploded in this decade.
2. 60s -- British invasion changed R&R in this decade
3. 90s -- grunge/alternative rejuvinated rock at least temporarly.
4. 50s -- the beginning
5. 80s -- ho hum -- hair bands -- yawn
6. 00s -- nuff said

I'm only 25 but I like to think I know some stuff about music, especially "rock"...so I'll participate as well.

1. '60's - for me, whatever decade Hendrix was from is automatically #1

2. '70's - start of heavy metal with Black Sabbath. Also had Zep in their prime, the Stones, too many others to mention.

3. '90's - the music I grew up with...Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, etc.

4. '80's - bands like Guns 'n' Roses, AC/DC, Tom Petty, and Metallica help bring this decade some credibility (not a fan of the "hair metal" myself).

5. '50's - where it all started...Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, etc.

As far as the 80's are concerned, don't forget bands like the B-52's (they were 70's also), The Smithereens, The The, Crowded House, The Smiths/Morrissey, The Police, Afghan Whigs, The Replacements, I could go on all day. The 80's minus the hair bands save for 'Slippery When Wet' and a few Def Leppard albums (I never really considered them a hair band to begin with) are a major part of my collection, and arguably the most listened to. Plus even the Pop music was listenable.

Aaron have you ever heard of Wolfmother? That's about the only band I've heard from this decade that's any good (others like the Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam have made music this decade but I consider them "90's".).

Anyway, knowing your taste in music, I think you'd like them. They've drawn comparisons to bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Who, etc. Give them a shot. They only have one album out right now (self-titled) and they recently broke up (damnit), but the lead singer recruited 2 replacements and they're releasing a new album next month.

Wolfmother - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Mind's Eye" is a good one (FFW to 3:15 and it reminds me a lot of The Who...I can see Townshend doing his windmill to it):
