After nine years I am gone after today. The bad economy has killed our sales and while my sales were off they were better than most. Feeling pissed off, but what can you do.

I'm a small business guy and that $5+/gallon was the begining of the end for a lot of people. Supermarkets in my area just drying up and they leave HUGE empty spaces that just look horrible. No one has $10-15k/month for that kind of rent.

Let's pray we don't deal with that again as it would be THE END for most as any borrowing that can be done is now gone. Without back up funds more small business will disappear. Cheap gas can fix everything in my opinion. Remember 1997 when gas was 79cents/gallon.

THOSE were good times.

When gas hit $5/gallon last summer, I bought a bus pass. Combination bike/bus is actually pretty sweet in the summer time.

That sucks. Just remember, you never know when life is about to get a whole lot better. Good luck.

I feel your pain, TX WJ. For the first time in the seven years where I work, my hours were cut to seven hours a day earlier this year, although business has picked up and am now getting more overtime in.

To make matters worse, I haven't had a raise in six years. I don't think ANYBODY where I work has, either.

But, I'm not alone, either. My good friend in northern Michigan recently lost 10% of his hourly pay plus Friday - meaning that he now works 32 hours per week - just to keep his job.

I can't wait til Bush's influence wears off, completely.

A round of cheap ass gas (or cheap costs of living to be more accurate) might be the only way to save our jobs. No one seems to be willing to take less money so the cost cutting has to come from somewhere.

If Obama wants to bail something out bail out gas prices! It's the only universal money saver that will benefit everyone INCLUDING the gas stations! What other industry benefits from LOWERING PRICES??

Sorry to hear that, TX :worried:

I'd recommend trucking, but you have a small son. It wouldn't be a good idea to have to be out on the road weeks at a time and your son not have you around :right:

I hope you don't have a Non-compete clause

I am truly sorry to hear that and hope you'll be ok. HOpefully, due to your 9 years there they gave you an ok severance. My best to you and your family.

I did but since they let me go, it can't be enforced.

Man that sucks, my advice would be to take some time to regroup then start posting resumes apps whatever you can to get back in the work force.

If you have a CDL then keep an eye out for the GM and eBay partnership. Auto transport is going to be HUGE and if the gas goes down then it'll be even bigger.

No they worked it out so they would not have to.

Those lousy mother f'ers. Use this time to think about what you really want to do, then cross that with what you HAVE to do to pay the bills and hopefully you can find something in the middle.

Damn shame what is happening to people right now.
