What three tracks would you choose as your personal 'Triple Crown' of racing?

I am more of a traditionalist so my picks are.....

Daytona - How could you not pick this track?

Darlington - Likewise

Martinsville - Roots of the sport.

It was called the Winston Million. Im not listening but it sounds like when ESPN did this big search for "Title Town USA". Everyone knows Green Bay WI is Title Town. You cant just start calling Cheboygan "The Windy City". The Windy City is Chicago. Nascar has/had already established there Crown Jewels of racing. You cant just up and change it. JMO

Sorry, but one of the rules of the 'Triple Crown' selection is that you only select three. LOL

No wildcards!

I agree

It would be interesting to know if anyone has ever won all three in the same year.

Yes, I looked....last time it happened, though, was 20 years ago in 1989. DW won the Daytona 500, the 600 and the Bristol night race in August of that year.

Anymore, it's a rarity just to win the Daytona 500 and the 600 in the same year. The last time that's happened was in 1997.

That's something NASCAR is missing is having some sort of promotion like a Triple Crown or the old Million.

As for my 3, I say if they'd ever move the Southern 500 back to Labor Day weekend, it would be Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600 and the Southern 500....that way the 3 would be separated by about the same length on the calendar. Plus, the 3 would have some reasoning....the Daytona 500 is the Daytona 500...nothing more needs to be said about that....the 600 is the longest race of the season and the Southern 500 is at one of the oldest tracks on the circuit.

But being a realist and knowing the Southern 500 is stuck in its current slot, I'll substitute that with the August Bristol race, as well.

I think im going to go with Daytona, Charlotte, and Bristol.

I would say Indy but man that race has taken a major hit publically in the last couple of years. For the last 10 years that race beat the Indy 500 in terms of attention, and attendence, this year the Indy 500 is going to crush the 400.

Seemed real simple to me...

Daytona 500 (Super Bowl of NASCAR) End of Discussion
Southern 500 (Now that its back) Restart the Tradition
Brickyard 400 ( Just because it pays 2nd most money to win) Racing isn't great though usually.

Well...it's very apparent in this thread that if NASCAR chose to run a Winston Million type competition each year...that...........NASCAR fans wouldn't be happy because the wrong races were in it.:p

Just trying to be funny gents...please don't get excited. No matter what....it's the great thing about sports...everyone's got their team(s) and ideas on how it should be played/run. No concensus possible. Ain't it great!!

Glad to see someone else appreciates that Martinsville track. :yesshake:

Love it...go each year to the fall race. I just like the old tracks, great racing and you can see the whole track from the stands (in most seats). Gotta stay high in Martinsville so you can see over the haulers in the infield.:p And.....love them red hotdogs!!!!:fallinlove:

The 'chase race' @ Martinsvile

Beautiful time of the year for a drive down from western PA.

Your love affair with the red hotdogs has me slightly concerned. Hotdogs are not meant to be red, period! LOL That being said, the next time I get back down there, I'll being eating them all weekend! Good stuff! :yesshake:
