Let the Yankees assemble their own All-Star team, it matters not to me. My Mets overspend as well, but nothing like the Yanks. You can buy talent, but you can't buy chemistry. That many egos in one clubhouse might not mix well.

And will make it even more funny when they don't win the WS this year.

They SHOULD win it every year with the cash they hae to just buy everybody. The fact that they HAVEN'T been winning it reflects on their leadership. But anyway, these darn players have no loyalty anymore. Money isn't everything...doesn't happiness and contentment count for anything anymore? You know, if I was ALREADY financially set for life, I'd stay where I was HAPPIEST, not necessarily where the most money was offered. Oh, and I'd never hire a jerk-ass agent, either. But I guess some players need all that money...they are probably blowing it on houses, cars, and strippers! For the record, I would NEVER play in New York (Mets or Yankees), Philly, or Boston. Those people jump on you and boo you out of the stadium trhe first time you hit one little slump or make on little mistake! I wouldn't play in those cities for 1 billion a year!

No offense, but the New York Mets have been pretty spectacular in the manner they have been losing at the end of the year.

2008 Salaries
1) New York Yankees: $207,108,489
2) New York Mets: $137,391,376

In total $344,499,865 spent on talent for the state of New York to win a World Series. It is kind of funny.

Right, and 137 mil couldn't buy chemistry - or heart. I'm actually happy with the Mets offseason thus far. K-rod has a big contract, but they have so far restrained themselves. I'd rather not win the pennant with a "cheap" team than overpay for talent and get the same result. I suspect the Wilpons are behind it, despite what they are saying publicly.

* Cheap being relative to the Yankees, of course.

K-Rod has a ton of talent, but he's always played on a team in contention, a team that's pretty much been at the top or vying for the lead. He's also never had a bad stretch while playing in a town that's nowhere near the pressure cooker that New York is.

Just look out...K-Rod has the makings of a wiry version of Benitez if things aren't going well.

I can't speak to their heart, but two years ago I would have sworn that no team could beat them in a best of seven.

I have a healthy supply of Mylanta and Tagamet in the medicine cabinet. I know nothing will be done the easy way this year.

You'll need it with K-Rod...

I've needed it w/ Benitez, Wagner, Schoenweis, Heilman, et al. I read K-rod can be an adventure in getting 3 outs, and the added pressure in NYC will only make it more "fun" I'm sure.

But this off-season has given me hope that Minaya has realized and is working on getting the right parts in here to prevent another collapse. One more starter and then get some offense. I think the Free Agent market is going to have a lot of late signings and some relative bargains.
