Stratus 6 power connect question

I'm looking at possibly getting the Stratus 6 with the new 'power connect' feature for the car. From what I am hearing, this 'power connect' is a LOT better than the old way of transmitting to the FM radio. From my understanding, it simply plugs into the car's electrical system via the cigarette adapter & then broadcast to desired FM frequency, correct?

If so, I'm wondering if this 'power connect' system could work in a home's electrical wiring too. I have used powerline products for computer use that use the whole house wiring to extend my ethernet network instead of running additional wiring. It has worked pretty good for computer uses.

I was hoping the power connect is sort of the same thing & then thinking if I used some sort of 110V AC to 12V DC Car Outlet Power Adapter Converter, I could then use the whole house wiring somehow to receive the SIRIUS broadcast on any FM radio in the house. Or am I dreaming with this idea?

We haven't tried it here at TSS Radio in a home set up like that. I am assuming that it would not work since it was not designed for that intended purpose. If this is something you want to try I would approach it not expecting the results that you want.

Yea, that is sort of how I would approach it too; if it works, great. If not, no big loss and wasn't really expected in the first place.

I've done more research and the 5v home power adapter wont even fit into the docking station. Also, turns out the power cord for the car that comes with the kit is part of the Power Connect technology

Another question regarding the power connect.
I am not a fan of wires all over my cars. So to clean up my installs I prefer to add a cigarette lighter socket under the dash then plug the 5 volt power lead to it to hide it.

If I add a cigarette lighter socket to the fuse box (accessory lead) and then plug the power connect lead into it would that technology still work ?

I'm not too certain about this one. In theory, yes it will work and should work well. It is all going through the cars electrical system so you should be fine.

Yea, I'm thinking this new 'power connect' hardware will probably only work in the car, but maybe a home version is not far behind. At least it would be a good idea & if they can do it for computer uses, I would think someone would be able to come up with something similar for SIRIUS/XM use. Only time will tell ;)

thanks for the feedback.
I need to install a Stratus 6 into 2 cars over the holiday break so I will let everybody know how plugging it into an added cig lighter socket works.

Well, I read the manual for the Stratus 6 and it did not recommend plugging the power connect hardware into a Y type adapter for the device. This is probably slightly different from "adding a cig lighter socket" so hopefully it works. Just thought I'd mention it though.

Actually guys, I did the install in Honda Fit and due to how teribbly tight things were in that car I did not end up installing an extra accessory outlet. To access the fuse box would have required nearly disassembling the entire dash by the looks of it. That or I would have needed 12" long needle nose pliars that I didnt have.
I could have tapped into the factory accessory outlet but since it wasn't my car I did not feel comfortable tapping into the existing wiring of the car.

Once the weather warms up I plan on installing a Status 6 in my wife's corolla and I plan to add an accessory outlet in her car so I will post back on how it works.

Good to know, but did you just install the startus 6, and if so how well did the fm transmitter work in it?

I did install the Status 6 with the powerconnect. I tried it first before hooking in the Aux wire and it did sound pretty good. I didn't notice any distortion or static. I'd say it was almost up there with the clarity of the FM Direct Connect.

However the audio sounded better once I plugged in the aux line. Since I was able to hide the aux wire behind the trim panels I opted to just leave it plugged in for the best sound.
