Still not satisfied

I'm still not satisfied with the Hip-Hop and R&B on Sirius/XM. I am glad that Backspin is now back on the air, but why is that there are still no DJ's on during the day????? (At least the times I am listening to the station) And how many times can they keep saying that Planet Rock is coming to the station?

It really seems like they (Sirius/XM) do not care about Hip-Hop or R&B at all. The Heat is so close to an FM station it is absurd. Heart and Soul plays The Commodores one minute, followed by Musiq Soulchild the next. Those are two completely different genres of R&B. SoulTown is trying to play 30+ years of music on one station. And why the h*@# is the Groove not on Sirius?!?!

Hip Hop Nation and Shade 45 are overtaxed trying to play 20+ years of Hip-Hop on two stations. To put this in comparison, There are four channels dedicated to classic rock (Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind, Deep Tracks, and Adult Spectrum).

I guess what makes the whole situation worse is that there really is no other alternative. I have checked into Slacker and Pandora, but they don't offer DJ's and the sports and news.

I always felt the merger was a bad idea because competition usually creates a better product. Now that there is really no competition, Sirius/XM can basically do whatever they want to, and we can either subscribe to it, or cancel.

I know this post is covering several topics, but I've been waiting to see what Sirius/XM was going to do after all the merger/bankruptcy talks settled. To say the least, I am not seeing anything that would make me want to keep subscribing to sub-par service.

I prefer Backspin without the DJ's. The only time the DJ'S were interesting were on Tuesday's, but the "facts" they used to share were pretty much common knowledge to those who grew up during that era.

Afrika Bambaataa's show being added to Backspin's lineup was a nice touch, but I could do without Monie Love's show since it really has no relevance to the channel.

I kind of have to agree. Backspin is pretty much the backspin we knew when it was originally on Sirius, without the old school legends as DJ's, which blows no matter what era you came up in. Just hearing Kurtis Blow in the afternoon was cool to me. Hip Hop Nation is far more hits based than it was before the merger, and is only now getting back to some of the original programming it used to offer. Shade is virtually unchanged, except for the morning show, which still needs some re-tooling. They can't find any male counterparts to go with that ditz Angela Yee?!? I won't even comment on the heat channel. Also, I think Leo G has gotten better since the merger, but Nina Nine needs to be let go, she just tries too hard to sound street.

Still, I heard the new Clipse song today on Shade, 2 days after it was released online, and I didn't have to sit at my computer to download it, then put it on my player, so I'm still pretty happy.

Backspin? There is no Backspin on my receiver anymore. The only Backspin is online only now. What's up w/ that? I can't get a straight answer from anyone at sirius about this.

I just noticed that Backspin online and Pop2k are the same thing Taylor. But, the song list/programming just isn't what it used to be. What happened to this channel? Not my favorite anymore for sure. Actually, since the song list has changed I can't find any good rap channels on Sirius at all. What am I paying for again?
First they let me down w/ the fm transmitter function of the newer receivers, then it's the customer service that sucks, and now the one station I really loved has changed for worse.

melloyello,

backspin is actually much better now. It is channel 39 and it is NOT pop2k. They haven't changed the name on the listing for some reason or another but the channel playlists and djs such as grandmaster flash are really good. It is all I listen to in terms of hip hop.

i'm fine without the DJs. I always wanted Backspin to be more like The Rhyme on XM. Some of the DJ shows that are on other channels should be on Backspin. Grandmaster Flash is doing a mix show on The Heat. Really wtf?? He was on Wax 42, then on Boombox, then Hot Jamz, a week on HHN, now The Heat. He should be doing a show on Backspin along with Red Alert (don't know where he went to but he was pissed the last day of Wax 42, got moved to Boombox, did a mix show on Backspin and vanished). The Rhyme had a few shows including classic Subsoniq which was awesome. I rather hear more early to mid 90's tracks from the shiny suit era than hear a 3 day old voice tracked intro to a song we've heard a million times.

Don't expect it to get any better. There attitude is you better be glad you got anything! While Soultown is (very shoddily) trying to recreate XM's Soul Street, they completely ignore that there was any R&B music in the late 70's and the 80's by not bringing The Groove onboard. And they don't care.......

Subsoniq is on HHN now on Sundays, in the evenings.

I know. I was talking about Subsoniq Classic where the crew would play and talk about underground artist/songs from the mid-90s-2001. One of the last shows, they played a rare Grand Daddy IU/Tupac track that really never got leaked out back then.

I guess I'm a little biased not only for the fact that I own sirius/work for tss but on the opposite side of the spectrum, clear channel radio is SO BAD!!!!!!!! the hip hop stations here in chicago play the same crap over and over, and it's not even chicago. I went to detroit for the weekend to play DEMF with my band, everytime we turned on the hip hop station (which i don't even know anymore since they took JLB off) it was that STUPID jamie foxx song "blame it on the booze"....literally 5 times within 1 day. Tell me that's coincidental with a straight face.

Well it's program directors that decide what's going to be played. They're the ones given the cash to play a song over and over. Now a day with so much music out, most PDs just plays whatever the labels tell them to.

Satellite is not immune to it. I swear Shade45 plays that 1 Maino song over and over like 5 times a day for the last 2 months. I just hate that song now.
