my stilletto 2 works fine when docked and when i walk around with it in the city it generally works fine but all of the sudden one day i turned it on and it did not receive any signal. i took the battery out for a minute and popped it back in and still no signal.
could the internal antenna be dead? is this somthing that happens? the radio was purchased brand new 1 year ago.

can anyone help?

No signal in both the dock and while running portable? WiFi?
Stored content?

Do you have multiple docks or antenna you can try?

What city are you in?

as i said, it works fine when docked. its when i walk around with it(portable mode i guess) that it doesnt receive a signal. stored music plays fine. all signs point to an antenna prob. i called sirius and they say its cause im not using the sirius headphones but i never have used them. i always use different headphones and i have always received a clear signal until it just stopped.

From your wording, I couldn't tell if you lost signal completely one day, or just in portable use.

What city are you in? You may have been receiving signal from one of the repeaters and not actually the satellite. The repeater in your city might be down.

I usually don't get enough signal at home (about 5 miles from our repeater) to go portable without the antenna headphones. When I'm walking around downtown, I can get repeater signal without the antenna headphones.

Right on.
Check out:
DogstarRadio.com Sirius Radio Satellite and Repeater Map

They list a repeater, but don't say that it's not running.
Terrestrial Repeater 244 - DogstarRadio

You also might check your device settings - antenna aiming, to see what your signal levels are for sat and terrestrial signals.

Try your antenna headphones once just to see if they make a difference.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

k so, i tried the sirius headphones and it works fine. makes no sence to me why for a whole year i was using other head phones with perfect results and all of the sudden i can only use sirius headphones. i still want to get to the bottom of this cause i would rather use other headphones.

In which part of Montreal? I'm in Montreal too and I haven't experienced a repeater problem, lately. I'm getting a 3 bar terrestrial reception right now.

But, I've experienced repeater problems many months ago. Something like last year, or in early 2009. I'm not sure. It sure is not fun when that happens, when you don't get good sat reception by the window. (I live in a condo and I can't put an antenna outside).

Understood. The antenna phones are passable at best, and certainly aren't good looking.

Right now, I'm low on suggestions for you. The troubleshooting that you've done so far is a good start. Could it be winter cloud cover? ? ? ? ?
Allanon may be able to offer a bit more insight at this point.

I'm not aware of the internal antenna wearing out being an issue. I'd keep my eye on the antenna aiming screen with and without the headphones plugged in. Has the unit taken a fall lately?

I've had the same problem. Out of several stillettos i've owned, i've only had one get a satellite signal by itself.

All of a sudden, one day, it just crapped out. However, I was able to get a signal without antenna headphones on my neighbor's roof. I can get a very weak signal on my third floor.

It appears that the internal antennas are sucky at best.
