I have had this unit for almost 3 years now. When plugged in to the dock, or on its own being battery powered, it will not turn on. It says System Error, plug into computer via USB. Trouble is I have no idea how to do that.

Am I pooched or is there a way to salvage this piece?

I have an SL10 as well, never had this issue. But you need to find your USB cord for your Stiletto and either plug it in while its in the dock (it came with a mini usb to USB cord that plugs into the back of the dock) or the USb cable that plugs right into the stiletto when not docked. If you do not have this, or lost it, there are places that sell these in stores or online. there's a way to restore the stiletto via the cable and software if it is plugged in via USB.

I know how to fix your problem. What you need to do first is download the stiletto device recovery software from sirius.com. Here is the link: SIRIUS Satellite Radio - Stiletto Device Recovery
After you have downloaded the software and installed it, connect your stiletto to your PC via USB cable and follow the prompted instructions. Make sure you stay connected to the internet while the device recovery is being performed. Once it's complete you will have an update like new out of the box stiletto.

Here's what you need: Stiletto USB Cable
This is the standard USB cable that comes with all stilettos. I would dig for yours and try and find it. It plugs into the same port on the bottom of the stiletto that the antenna headphones do.

I have an update on this problem. I got my USB cable, installed the software but when I connect it to my computer the battery is dead. Is there a way I can charge the battery while it is crashed like this?

If you have the charger you can just plug it in and charge it. Or if you have a home dock and the charger you could give the battery some juice that way too. Having a partially charged battery is key to performing a device recovery.

So I got that part covered. I recieved the software from SIRIUS, and it was installing when I went to bed 3 hours later, and when I woke up it says it cannot perform the device recovery. Now once I recieved the software I disconnected from the internet.

Could that have been the problem as to why it didnt work.

Well, after a long delay of nonsense, I tried reinstalling the software which seemed to work initally. But now the device wont even turn on for me to run the software again and SIRIUS tech support told me the device was toast.

Yay me.

Success!!

I gave it another try last night after literally throwing it against the wall. After that it turned on with the error message, i went right to the software to do that process. That took about 15 minutes and it seemed to work again. I plugged it into my dock without the battery and it works!

Glad to hear something is working out! Let us know if anything else goes south.
