Hello all. I own one of the old style Starmate Replays w/strong FM transmitter and while I know my radio is the last of a dying breed, I was hoping there are still some out there that also own one and could offer technical help in solving an electronic glitch with the FM Transmitter.

I've noticed lately that whenever pressure is applied to my radio (to change pre-sets or by using the down button) in the area between the last few presets and the down button, the FM transmitter cuts out. The radio itself stays on and the antenna strength stays strong, but the radio stops transmitting the signal for a seconds, or as long as the pressure is applied.

I'm assuming something related to the FM transmitter has either come loose or something that shouldn’t be making contact is making contact, but I don’t know enough to say with any certainty. Anyone know if that’s where the FM transmitter is located?

Anyone else had a similar problem and if so what can be done to solve it (aside from not applying pressure to that area)?

In addition, when the radio is apart, there is a metal cage surrounding the LCD screen that appears to have been soldered to the unit. I noticed recently that the solder on mine has come undone and I was wondering if the cage itself served any purpose, and if so should I attempt to solder it back down?

Thanks in advance for any help.
